We've got used to thinking 1.40 was cheap, time to get it right back to 1.80+ to bring it down and settle at 1.50 odds to think that's cheap.

Still worth it. Stuff using an EV.
Or have an EV and an ICE car like me? fk paying £90 for 400 miles when I can pay £20 for the same distance.
Not wishing to be argumentative, but how much did your EV cost to buy?
And how much has it depreciated?
Many people I know will pay thousands for a newer car and lost thousands on a part-exchanged car on the basis that RFL was £300 on the old car and £35 on the new car, rather than be realistic about the fact that they simply wanted a newer car!
You get that a lot but most of it comes down to the value prospect not just the hard cash.

You get perceived value form spending on a new car because you get a new car. Spending money on tax is no value to you personally.

It’s even worse for the 700 odd a year tax I’m just hoping the 2006 onwards v8’s plummet in value because of this and I can get a good one for cheap biglaugh
Me too smile

My wife has just started a new job much closer to home (3 miles round trip instead of 44 miles) so I'm now thinking it might be a good time to get rid of our diesel shed A6 Avant for something with a pokey V6/V8 petrol engine while we still can.

Local Shell is now 159.9 for 95 (not much cheaper across town), Esso near work was 143.7 last night.

Ample difference to justify the added few minutes to my trip.

Madness round here at the minute for petrol at least

Around my usual trips the cheapest is £1.39.9 at Sainsburys and a Texaco which are even undercutting Costco
cheapest within the real local area is £1.43.9

My local Sainsburys is now charging £1.499 a litre but it was £1.419 a few weeks ago, so it looks like prices are climbing again.

I'd rather pay £200 for 400 miles than drive an EV.

Have you ever driven one?
Yes. Terrible. I'm petrol until the end I'm afraid.
you arent aloud to hate ev just because greener and cheaper even tho they arent for both, and this website is called pistonheads, not many pistons in an ev.

Around here are 144.9 - 149.9 so I'd take 139.9 in a heartbeat.

Not seen a one-thirty anything since well before Christmas.

Either side of where I tend to fill up (Montrose), i.e. towards Dundee or towards Aberdeen, seem to be about 5p cheaper.

Esso have just opened a site in Hartlepool and are making all the other places look like thieving oiks (who cranked their prices up to 1.48 over the Easter break) having opened with a saving at charging 1.45. The Esso station outside of Sedgefield (not usually one of the cheapest usually) are charging a penny less than that as is the Gulf station just off the A1, both of which have traditionally been pricier by a fair margin.

A splash at one Shell

and then a fill up at a different Shell the next day

If it's not legible, it's 19p/litre difference between E10 and E5 at one Shell and 10p/litre difference at another Shell silly

No, first one Shell Preston Park Brighton and second one Shell central Hereford.

[edit] but I can see why you would think that given the bonkers prices in Brighton!

They will price people out of petrol and diesel so that its completely unattractive and go EV. But then they lose a cash cow in fuel duty and VAT. I think they will probably just make electricity much more expensive by 2035 to regain the losses. Basically you're f*cked either way.

The mental gymnastics is quite interesting.

I have always been very happy with my petrol car and didn't really see the need for getting an EV at all. Just a few years later and I'm sat here considering a hybrid as most of my trips are sub 20 miles round trip most days and could easily be done on electric. Saving the petrol for the longer commute to work or visiting relatives. Never thought it would happen and yet here I am.

However, I can also see them putting electric prices up or at least if people are on a smart meter adding more tax to the car portion of charging (if they can even see that). I know people will say that's a conspiracy or whatever and I am weird but stranger things have turned out to be true and they will want the money somehow.

Well who in the right mind thought that EVs would never pay road tax ever again? If they did then more fool them. Give with one hand, take with the other.
