It’s bloody fast too, how fast will the M2 be?
This is definitely fast I agree, and it has the same 0 to 60 time as a manual F82 M4! The M2 will be a rocket for sure. driving

I'm never going to say I have good taste so clearly my view is flawed - but I think in the none full M view this car is very good looking and soooo much better than the last 2 when not having had the treatment. Oddly while many say the back is poor, for me this is the area of greatest improvement - losing some of the gawkiness of the old one.

But speed isn't everything, fluidity and entertainment for me exceed pure power at least once 5 second times are offered. I suspect that may be reserved for the M2 because the old M2 was VERY loveable?

That weight, tho. Is it actually machined out of a single piece of neutron star?

That’s an absolute heifer. It’s also pretty big….as per the 220 review, it’s about the size of the E9x 3 series. At what point do cars stop growing?
Its a large car its actually longer then the E90 and only a couple of cm shorter than the E92.

Terrible looking car, grills better than the 4 series but cant get past the triangular vents on the front which have been hidden quite well on those dark shots of a dark colour, and a fat wedge of a rear end with lights that looks like they were designed for another car entirely.

Anyone else think those mirrors are just ridiculously large - DUMBO!!

Very fast, ugly, overweight and purple. I'm sure it will sell well.

Would love one of these.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- BMW haven’t made a good looking car since the e38, I remember most people hated the e46 and e39 when they came out. Move on from the looks because this issue has existed for 20+ years

"If you wanted to fit anything in the old car, like more than two people, you needed to order a taxi as backup."

Fun fact: the interior of the new one is smaller.

I hate those big triangular vents too vomit

I don’t think BMW highlighting their design cues with that disgusting metallic beige really helps either.

More proof that we are past peak ICE car - very big, too heavy, ungainly design, unfeasibly fast, stupid tech, it's a nasty piece of work and a full bingo card of what's wrong in the automotive sector. And it's purple. BMW are far from the only culprit but by historical brand standards this is dreadful. Definitively not an ultimate driving machine...

The comments about the F22 M240i is nonsense!

My M240i never wants to kill me and the torque delivery is very linear, it’s a big lazy engine in a small car which makes a good recipe.

I say lazy because of the power delivery, it does have a above of torque lowdown that you can feel on the motorway cruising at 60 and putting your foot down but it never steps out at low speeds in bends unless it’s pouring down with rain.

Mine is a manual so maybe it’s different, having a clutch etc but all I know is, there is a bit of a chicane on the way to my house, it’s a bit like…

So there’s a traffic light and a one way route under a single lane bridge. I have to take an immediate left so when the light is green, I go through at speed, take an immediate left, second gear, car, never ever steps out of shape, purely because of the torque delivery. Linear.

A lot of people say the m140i/m240i is a bit dodgey on the limit and they’re over powered but I’ve never had any trouble driving it. My previous car however, the M4, is a completely different story, now that is a car that wants to take your life!

first picture it looks very good in that purple-ish color.

also, that B58 engine now 375 hp sounds good, if Morgan with their plus 6 also using their latest B58 those will then go from 335bhp to 375bhp, but I guess those Morgan Plus 6 will keep the 'old' 335 bhp B58 BMW specs?

I believe those engines without changing internal things, are good for around 500bhp? a lightweight Morgan (1080-ish kg) would fly with that.

So about 40% heavier and 50% pricier than a GR86 for... what benefit?

Just buy the Toyota and go drive.
I wouldn't drive a GT86 if it was given to me. Absolutley terrible cars. No idea why they've got such a good reputation.

This BMW is OK, supposed to look a lot better in the flesh. The M2 is going to be epic though.

Performance for a start, and this is a pretty quick car, whereas the GR86 just isn't. I do like the GR86, but you can't compare the two for me. This has loads of torque, whereas the GR86 has hardly any torque at all.
THIS!!!

I also.ow a F22 M240i and I have none of the issues with it raised by the reviewer here. Makes me wonder about the driving ability of the reviewer or maybe to be generous lack of familiarity with the F22

That weight figure....

How come a GTR gets moaned at for weight and this porker is thudding around the place. Weight us one of the main benefits of not being electric and its being totally abandoned here.

I really like it !! Didn't think that is something I'd say about a new BMW, but this looks rather good.
I can't really fault the back, seems good to me!

And regarding the weight: I know I'm no racing driver by any means and on public roads, I very, very rarely discover the cars lateral dynamics nowadays. Sure, I can feel the dynamic difference between a Range Rover and a Caterham, but would I notice a weight difference of 1.5 vs 1.8 tons on a newly developed car like the 2series outside a track day? I doubt it ... Especially since car manufacturers like BMW and Porsche are really good at hiding kerb weight.

Cars have come a long way since the Caterham ....

It’s not that they’re overpowered, it’s the damping that is doggy do, which is generally worse on the 40i cars because the spring rate was increased over the 35i.

The rear ends do pogo and run out of ideas when speeds pick up on a decent B road. My M140i was pretty frustrating on some really good roads. It was better with some different springs, the underbody brace and Bilstein dampers but it still left a lot to be desired hence it being moved on after two years.

They can be disconcerting to drive but at no point did it ever spit me into a hedge. I’m guessing it’s some poetic license from the reviewer which helps to justify the new car.

The r35 is a similar weight before you add the fuel and driver donuts probably 150kgs heavier in a like for like . Not that I ever thought the weight of the r35 was the issue some did
