I wouldn't exactly say he left "acres of space"! I certainly wouldn't have passed the cyclists (or indeed anyone else) at that speed on a road that narrow if I was in the Land Rover.

Personally I think a prosecution for driving without due care is sensible in this case. Dangerous driving would have been massively overkill but passing at that speed was clearly an antisocial and rather stupid thing for the driver to do.

If I was driving, then in that situation I would have stopped, simple as.

There was no space to leave, however the Land Rover was going too fast.

So why didn't the first cyclist fall off, or the one with the camera. Because the one who did shouldn't be riding a bike if she can't stop without falling off it.

Her feet are still on the pedals !!!

If anyone else is to blame it's the one in front who stopped and she fell off because no one has taught her to take a foot of a pedal and touch the ground when stopping.

I am a cyclist, she fell because they (the cyclists) stopped and she didn't clip out. The driver is a moron clearly but he didn't make her fall over!

He was going to fast and should have slowed down a lot more to be honest. I would have been at a snails pace or completely stopped.

But, looking at her feet still clipped into the pedals, I think her biggest issue was in being able to keep her balance and remain upright after having to come to a complete halt behind the rider in front.
Clearly the court decision is that she should not have needed to do that, if the circumstances were different and that is all that really matters.

Another case where motorists don't have a clue about the effect their passing has on others.

The suggested 4 feet of clearance for passing a cyclist applies in either direction, not just when overtaking, so the driver was clearly at fault.

Now if her head had hit something hard and she had died the charge could have been causing death by ...........

Think next time you pass a cyclist/pedestrian and give them more space. They have as much right to be there as you do.

No win situation really.

Some stating the the Land Rover should have stopped and allowed the cyclists to pass but then you could argue a bit self preservation by the cyclists would have seen them stop and step into the verge to allow the Land Rover to pass. Certainly seems like they stopped but the middle one couldn't unclip and she went into the ditch. Not as if the other two suffered a similar fate thus the issue seems to be with her, not the Land Rover... who granted wasn't exactly crawling past but looks to be on the grass verge opposite as it passed. Could also be a local who's fed up of cyclists clogging up the rural roads locally and thus stopping for every one they encounter simply isn't an option.

4ft...? On a single track road? Not possible unless passing motorists are expected to drive through the field so I think a bit common sense should prevail both before making comments like that or indeed, choosing to ride on single track roads where the possibility of encountering vehicles is high and where said vehicles can't leave the suggested 4ft of passing space. But again, self preservation and all that.

Stupid lemming anti cyclist posts daily mail propaganda more like....

Driver clearly at fault and appropriately punished.

If you cant be civil to other road users then pay the price. Simple as. The guy in the Land Rover clearly has a problem and treats the other road users badly. Hopefully he will learn from it

yes I don't think the fact that she fell off is relevant. If all the cyclists had stayed upright it would still have been moronic driving and would still have been worthy of prosecution, IMO.

Garbage, she fell off because she didn't put a foot down, like the other two did.

I am a cyclist, the guy in the car was a moron but she fell because she didn't unclip her pedals no other reason.

Looking again at he must give them nearly 4 foot of clearance, he goes up on the opposite verge.

It happens all the time why its national news I have no idea!

Can’t see the Land Rover did anything wrong TBH. It appears she fell over because the cyclist in front stopped, she wasn’t expecting it and couldn’t unclip in time. I’d say the blame was with the cyclist in front, who managed to not fall over. I speak as both a cyclist and motorist.

He didn't he didn't get prosecuted because she fell off did he? He got prosecuted for driving without due care and attention.
