Toyota GR86 UK pricing confirmed

Time to get properly excited about the incoming 235hp coupe - it's cheaper than a GR Yaris...

So the GR Corolla isn't coming to the UK - that's a shame. But here's some good news to cheer you up, because the GR86 most certainly is. And the promise of a list price that undercuts the GR Yaris has just been confirmed, too, with the range kicking off at £29,995. Which, in 2022, doesn't seem an awful lot - have you seen what a Golf GTI costs these days?

The finance will be the important number, however, given that's how the majority of cars are sold. As with the Yaris at launch, the GR86 looks more than a little appealing: a PCP will cost £4,777 for the deposit, then £299 a month for 42 months at 4.9% APR. There's an optional final payment of £16,470 for those unable to part with their 86 come 2026.

Just two models will be offered from launch, reflecting the general (and welcome) simplicity of the model as a whole. The one that's £29,995 is the manual, then the automatic costs £32,085. That's it. The standard spec includes a reversing camera, eight-inch infotainment display with smartphone integration, LED lights, heated seats, auto high beam and lane keep assist. With the car not technically on sale until next week, Toyota hasn't yet shared anything about options, though it seems unlikely that there'll be much on the list to fundamentally alter the 86; we're not expecting a Circuit Pack or similar, put it that way.

Rest assured we'll update this story when orders do open. Given it's already been made clear that the new GR86 will only be on sale for a couple of years, and with its scintillating potential already halfway confirmed by last year's prototype drive, a £29,995 RRP sounds like the cherry on top of another very tasty GR cake. First deliveries are expected in July. By which time you'll have forgotten all about that Corolla...

I like these but just think they need a turbo but I am likely wrong.

Nice car but it needs 300BHP and should cost ~£21K for that spec. I'd also expect 60MPG for such a modern car but from what I've read it can't do it.

Maybe the last chance to buy a traditional ICE N/A FR layout sports car?

I want one so much, just doesn't fit practicality requirements for me.

Does it have small rear seats or is it a strict 2 seater?

I was going to say I'm getting in before the 'it needs more power' crowd but I see that ship has long sailed!

Seems a good price as 5 year old GT86s are going for low twenties currently.

Very very tempted. Had a Subaru BRZ for a while and the increased power/torque now on offer seems about right. Also pleased to see the back of the awful tyres on the original; in the wet/cold they provided me with too many hairy moments for it to be called fun.

Exactly, when I purchased a brand new Impreza Turbo in 2000 it was nearly £21K and that didn't even have air con or a CD player.

Presumably a tongue in cheek post.

Any word on colour options? I’m eagerly awaiting a call from the dealer my holding deposit is with.

Why didn't they put the engine out of the GR Yaris/Carolla?
Could have had a 260hp version and a cooking 300hp version.

I really like this car. Probably the best car released in more years than I care to remember.

How many times do we hear on PH that where the subjective fun lies, is in lighter weight, moderate power and great chassis dynamics?

This is exactly the car PHers say they want..... only to then go out and buy something with too much power, stupidly big rims and numb feedback.

With the days of manual ICE cars possibly numbered, now would be a good time for us all to stop playing top trumps and go for fun over company car park bragging rights.

As an aside, might I suggest the launch of this new car may drive down the price of the GT86..... . Get in there, before they make it illegal to live!

Not sure why PH needed to reference the cost of the Yaris as that’s clearly not the competition, you also can’t buy a Yaris today from a dealer at list price.
