Nice car but it needs 300BHP and should cost ~£21K for that spec. I'd also expect 60MPG for such a modern car but from what I've read it can't do it.
300BHP, £21k, 60mpg.

Christ there’s some miserable, out of touch people on here…

It’s a lightweight, 240hp, NA, RWD manual coupe (the type of car that everyone on this forum seems to complain isn’t made anymore) that’s pretty much had rave reviews across the pond. Not only that, but it can be bought/PCP’d brand new, with a warranty (for up to 10 years providing you service it with Toyota!) for not much more than a diesel family hatchback and people are complaining?

fking £21k?! That’s a mildly specced Fiesta these days (and not an ST). 60mpg?! Maybe wait for the 2.0 diesel, but then it’ll sound like a tractor and you’ll be going “why couldn’t they put a nice petrol engine in?”. Jesus wept.

Why didn't they put the engine out of the GR Yaris/Carolla?
Could have had a 260hp version and a cooking 300hp version.
Yep. They could have chipped it, fitted a larger turbo, forged it etc and got 500bhp out of it easily.

Probably called it a GR86 S and included things like leather and an electric tailgate as standard. Retailed it for £34995 including mats and flaps.

I was hoping for the 5.5 litre LMP1 Judd V10 and lane change assist.

Definitely worth putting that to Toyota I think. Maybe that's the SE spec with a £36995 price point?

I like these but just think they need a turbo but I am likely wrong.
no they don't. NA engines are a lot of fun.
Supercharged would probably be a good in between balance however. wink

Maybe the last chance to buy a traditional ICE N/A FR layout sports car?

I want one so much, just doesn't fit practicality requirements for me.

Not this again. Cooking means the basic version. As in, cooking apples.

And why want a laggy little three pot when you can have a smoother, larger ICE?

Take Honda S2000 power levels and weight, add in a proper roof and boot space, some modern safety standards bung on a 5 year warranty and there we have it! Having more power than grip is a hell of a lot more fun than the reverse scenario.

Not saying it isn't. But what is "lightweight"?

The GR86 is almost 1300kg (probably is with any options or heavier with an auto).

It wasn't all that many years ago that 1300kg would have been considered a bit of a porker in the 'lightweight' sports car world. Bearing in mind an Elise would have been about 500-550kg lighter...

And somehow, despite the GR Yaris having AWD, it weighs 10% or so less than the 'sports car'.

Toyotas have 10yr warranty, so it is even better than that for those that own rather than lease. This is most likely my next car.

But the S2000 was a bit cack.

Shouldn't it have 350bhp, cost £18.5k and do 75mpg?

Very very tempted. Had a Subaru BRZ for a while and the increased power/torque now on offer seems about right. Also pleased to see the back of the awful tyres on the original; in the wet/cold they provided me with too many hairy moments for it to be called fun.
Me too. My exact thoughts.

Standard warranty is now 3 years I believe and if you service at Toyota they will extend it a year up to 10 years.

Lovely car and in today’s world fairly priced, but absolutely useless for seeing over hedges.

laugh

Maybe 20 years go
Exactly, when I purchased a brand new Impreza Turbo in 2000 it was nearly £21K and that didn't even have air con or a CD player.
Off topic but in 2006 Vauxhall were punting out pre-reg delivery miles Monaro VXRs for £22k - fully loaded, 6.0 V8 and 400bhp. Now that was a steal - glad I bought one looking back biggrin

Maybe not, but when you look at the finance offer. A base Porsche Cayman isn't hugely more. Or at least it wasn't, but I can't seem to find the online offers and finance calculator on the Porsche website now....

Excellent. Have lots of warm, fuzzy feelings for Toyota at the mo. And its cars don’t fall apart after 3yrs / 60k.
