They fall down for me because they are only offered with a 4 cylinder engine though, and cars at this price range(when new) should have more than 4 cylinders in my opinion.
So as they get older its okay to get rid of a cylinder or two? biggrin

We’ve got a D5, and while it really would be better with more than just 4 cylinders, it really is a nice car.

They do, it called the V90CC, and if you don't need the 7 seats of the XC90, it's a cheaper, more efficient and better looking alternative.

Bit out of my price range! But the V90CC does look nice although it is bigger than the older XC70.

Same that any of its direct competitors will throw up, although chances are you won't be hit with the german-tax on the cost of parts.

Why wouldn't it?

It's a car. And is at least as good at its role as, say, a GT3 is at its.

I’ve got the latest lowest mileage mk1 I can find and it’s a fine fine car for the family.

Will almost certainly run it for another ten years or so till
It dies.

I love the looks of the mk2 but I dont hear the same stories of robustness from the experts.

Just checked my app - My 2017 T8 is doing 148mpg currently... But if you're buying it just to avoid road tax (ours is free) and you're going to slog up and down a motorway all the time then expect more like 30mpg.

For me, about the only s.u.v I'd need. I have a mk1 which is fine. I think robust is probably the best word to use. I see the mk2 as a more refined version all around.

Do I need a super powerful engine in these. Nope. I can count on 1 hand the times I've been in an suv and though I'd like to gun it about.

When this goes electric it'll be the sweet spot for the range imo.

Same as that, I love my Mk1 D5. It’s a bit noisy and not the best handling, but as a family bus it’s hard to beat, and we use the extra two seats quite frequently. The kids love the split tailgate too

If I was ever to change it then I’d be highly likely to stick with another XC90

So is the X5/7, the Disco/RR, the GL and the Q7 etc. They will all have big bills. Even a Landcruiser and Defender is super complicated now-a-days.

Had one of these as a rental upgrade the other day from an airport in France.

Have to say it was a really, really lovely thing - wonderful place to do big miles in....

We have a D5 (pushing 80k miles now over 6yrs) and it's been fine (aux battery just had to be replaced - £100 - for which I blame the auto stop start nonsense cars are saddled with too often). No more troublesome than the D5 mk1 we had, and that was rock solid too (clockspring change and rear wheel bearings at 75k miles. We replaced that at 5yrs and 105k miles).

We avoided the T8 as the economics simply didn't stack up.

Lack of split rear tailgate was a downside on the mk2. But in every other respect it's another league from the mk1 (which we still have a soft spot for).

I also looked hard at Land Rover products (Disco sport was actually the most surprising in a positive way), GL, Q7 and X5/X7. None had the same qualities as the Volvo (Q7 was closest. But a lot more expensive like for like).

V60CC, current generation is probably similar size to XC70.

The twincharged engine is an impressive performer in the V60, the V60CC and the V90 but it certainly doesn't sound premium and they are all incredibly thirsty.
