I just don't get this kind of car at a new price of near enough £30k
When what your buying is a lightweight, fun, basic sports car, how is the extra £27k worth it over a decent used NB or for a little more, NC?
They essentially offer the same core features as this.
This model will also be available cheaply when it’s got baggy suspension and rusty sills. When what your buying is a lightweight, fun, basic sports car, how is the extra £27k worth it over a decent used NB or for a little more, NC?

Indeed - for some of us, me included , I prefer the ND to earlier MX5s , as I find its styling much more refreshing than its more derivative predecessors , it is smaller, faster and more economical than an NC and I simply prefer to own relatively newer cars. I don't buy brand new cars -mine is a 2015, bought in 2017 with 5 k miles and progressively upgraded since then, including Dinitrol.
Love the comments..... referring to the lack of power.
I sold my Mustang 5.0 GT during lockdown plus we also had a house move on the go. I always liked the MX-5, but never got around to testing one, initially it had to be the 2.0 or so I thought........then tested the 1.5.
What a sweet little engine that's happy to spin up to 7.500rpm when ever required. I ended up getting a cracking deal on the limited Edition R - Sport with its light weight Forged Rays alloys its only 960kg, which is the same weight as the original NA.
Its a great little car you can enjoy to the full without worrying about loosing your license, l have no issues with the standard suspension which is comfortable and compliant on our rural back roads.
Now 5500 miles in and due its first service and not a drop of oil used, regularly returns 42-44 mpg oon the back roads 50 plus when cruising.......that's better than our daily hack Fiat Panda 1.2.

People constantly slate the 1.5 for being slow but the fact is it's more or less the same power and weight as the original 1.6/8 NA, and by all accounts, a superb engine.I sold my Mustang 5.0 GT during lockdown plus we also had a house move on the go. I enjoy my 200 bhp NC but in all honesty, I reckon I could easily make do with 60-70 bhp less and 150kg less weight. I'm sure it's plenty quick enough to enjoy on the roads. There's definitely a joy to working a car hard though without smashing the sound barrier
I see the lack of performance as a feature of cars like this
It means you can actually use and fully exploit the car without losing your life or license.
I had many slowish cars including and NB and MR2 MK3 and it was great to be able to have fun with the car in everyday driving.
With anything over 200 bhp (generalising) I find you just can't exploit them on the road. With higher speed and performance generally brings other undesirable things like running costs, weight, reliability and feel, both in terms of the chassis (higher performance means stable / dull at lower speeds) and brake, clutch feel which have to be stronger and less feelsome
