The BMW TT V8 seemed like one of the most characterless V8's I've ever experienced when I drove an F90 M5.

The 5.0 Supercharged in my F Pace SVR on the other hand, wow, I'm in love!

Anyway, I’ve already placed an order for the new one for him. Age 70 and certainly not one of the stereotypes alluded to throughout the thread, it’s just a car that does everything he wants and looks smart.
What? He doesn't fight in MMA in white socks nor live in a £80k hovel, nor is a drug dealer and a narcissist PCP junkie trying to impress the neighbours?

I am confused now.
That genuinely made me chuckle the image of a 70 year old gent done up like the karate kid in knee high white socks haha.

I must be honest and say I quite like the look of this RRS and the few neighbours who drive them are attractive women in their forties with good careers so my earlier comment is of course a little tongue in cheek.

But goodness those white socks!.

I’ve never driven a Range Rover, or any of these massive SUVs (Q7 etc).

I’ve got a theory though that if I did I would probably think ‘yeah actually this is a bit of allright!’

  • high seating position, great visibility, loads of room in the boot
  • I imagine it swallows up potholes
  • cars give way as you barrel towards them stradling the centre line (as the road's not really wide enough)
  • pedestrians tug their forelocks as you waft past
So basically don’t drive one as you’ll probably end up wanting one! smile
I really like the Merc GLE400d that we have for the reasons you mention, but even though there are cameras everywhere on it...I still worry about catching one of the wheels on a kerb edging. Plus sometimes I just can't be arsed with the size of it though(I preferred the GLC350d before it in that regard).

I've always wanted a RRS too, however I've never lifted any weights or ever been to a gym...but I do have plenty of white socks though! biggrin

Couldn't resist joining in on this thread.

Myself and my partner have PCP'd cars whose combined list price isn't far off what our house cost. House is nice, so are the cars.

I'd happily drive one of these RR sports but I can't afford one and would likely choose something else if I could.

From personal experience I wouldn't want to own one outside of warranty. My boss' Jag has had loads of problems.

With regard to depreciation said Jag has depreciated more in 2 years and 30k miles than my Audi has in 5 years and 50k miles. I wouldn't enjoy that feeling.

I agree the 5.0 is a gem.
Nothing beats a RR they look prestigious on the road and make you feel like a king when driving them nothing comes close IMO.
As for residuals, they look bloody strong to me.

I am just wondering about the ever decreasing proportion of glass vs tin. Might be the way the photos are taken, but looks like a huge wall of metal with a strip of (mostly black) glass above it... where is this heading? Next gen, glass is letterbox sized, and after that I guess no glass needed as self driving or drive by instruments only? (happens in other modes of transports as well, Alex Thomson's Hugo Boss IMOCA was designed without a cockpit and to be sailed around the world non-stop from inside the boat with cameras to see what's going on outside)

Is bragging about new car ratio to income or whatever the new PH stair dominating metric of bellendry?
Appears so. Why was I not informed about this? Here am I paying £1500 per month for a brand-new, all-black RRS and giving it the full white-socked Mr. Miyagi every time I get out and it turns out all I needed was to buy a £1500 Fiesta and a T-shirt with "50:1" written on it!

I’ve just put down a deposit on one of these. Going for a more mature spec that hopefully avoids being branded as a bit nouveau riche. Dark Blue with 21 inch wheels in silver and a tan interior.

The PCP deals look remarkably cheap but after doing the sums they are pretty much like an interest only mortgage. The majority of the payments cover the interest owed leaving you with very little of the balance paid off at the end of term. Could lead to a nasty shock if the residuals aren’t what you hoped. Whatever happened to guaranteed future values?

The attraction for me is the decent electric only range but with more than a 4 cylinder when you want to go further. That kind of range can only seem to be found in a larger car so I’m going to try and get over my dislike for SUVs. I’m also increasingly finding the poor state of roads these days reduces the enjoyment in my sports estate. Had to pull over twice on a recent road trip to check for damage to the rims.

Putting down a deposit earlier this morning equalled a March 23 delivery date. Looks like they are already in high demand.

I don't especially like the fact the Family Cidered had to move from nice estates to SUVs, but we did, and whilst it's a bit of a PH cliche to say they are wife-friendly, fact is they are - and that was certainly the reason i've been sitting that much higher up in our family car since 2018.

I also don't like the fact that even if i did like this car (i don't mind it at all, really), it's either my own unconscious bias against the "championship footballer/bit Cheshire/New Money" image, or a very conscious bias that i know that's what many will people think. Didn't think i was especially worried about image when choosing a family car, but hey ho - looks like i am! Disappointed in myself.

Defender 90 is the current family car choice, and whilst a few beardy types hilariously call it a "Pretender", genuinely haven't ever experienced a family car that attracts some much positivity. Wife has never had people try and talk cars to her in petrol stations before, either.

They're both big, comfortable, good looking, overweight and overpriced, horribly wasteful cars - but one gets panned whilst the other gets let out of junctions. Funny old world.

You peaked on even my efforts.
Chuck in the high street syringe face jobs fuelled by celebrity worship and we have closed the loop on the range rover target market.

The ratio of house cost to car tipping the 0.75:1 once we take into account some local housing authority help.

If this stagflationary recession does anything.....

Definitely an indication of where it's at where you live or of the size of the chip on your shoulder. Or both!

Residuals on new FFRR's seem to be doing pretty well at the moment...

Granted it is a brand new car. The dealer he bought it off were actually bidding on it and the seller is now blacklisted.

Another winner I should think. Velar was clearly the LR model for the way forward.

Clean, handsome motors. Not a trick many makers seem able to pull off despite it being their day-job.

The V8 version would be a fine way to celebrate and see out the end days of ICE.
If you're referring to the SVR version, then i suspect the BMW V8 would be a way to see out ICE whilst being disappointed by both the noise and power delivery, plus with the ever-present spectre of epic cooling system borkage.

Bring back the supercharged 5.0!

I liked the old model and I still like this new one, but I think it's only a small step forward. I can't help but think that they could've tried a bit harder.

In my line of work, the RRS is the default motor for the muck shifters/scrap metal/plant hire side of the industry.
But still in black, black wheels and full tints.
