Audi runs over owner
Discussion
I may possibly have had this occur.
I converted my E36 from auto to manual, so it was up to me whether I put an interlock switch in. Obviously I didn't because I'd never be that daft to start it in gear...
Fast forward to a track day, in the paddock. Left in reverse with handbrake off in case of hot brakes binding. For some reason I can no longer remember, decided to lean in and start the engine, forgetting that I'd decided I wouldn't be daft enough to do so. Off it went merrily backwards across the paddock. Fortunately I was able to jump in and stop it, no harm done in the end.
I don't think I'll be making that mistake again though!

An accountant I knew who loved cars, was killed when his car for reason never determined lurched forward and crushed him to death

He made a mistake. People make mistakes.
Lots of 'mistakes' get prosecuted. He made a concise decision to start his car in a unsafe manner. There is no defence here.ashenfie said:
It seams more than that, Manual which can be started with car in neutral, no foot on break or clutch. All points to a unsafely modified car.
I think that's a bit of a stretch - the majority of cars on the road, certainly until recently, can be started in gear. Are they all "unsafe" too? ashenfie said:
