Cars like this and the prices they command are not for mere mortals like me and I would guess 99% of people on this forum.

There are people out there that are stinking rich. Who don't care about cars being an investment to flip on in a few years, who don't care about the slightly inflates price as it is chicken feed to them, but who do love cars and want the absolute best of the best and are prepared to pay for it.

This is who this car is aimed at and I bet it sells.

To those that comment on the price…try and find another one is the retort that comes to mind.
Just because it's rare, doesn't mean it's worth it.
I actually have absolutely zero interest in finding one, in all honesty. The 306 was very much a cheaply screwed together car of its time, as many European cars were, needing to compete with such turds as the Escort, and now is very far from its time. Sure this must be worth a lot more than any "lawn" resident 306, but 46k,the issue is not the 46k, the issue is that 46k buys you a lot more desirable metal than this, what relevance is 300 miles? A proper 46k car with 80k miles is still much more desirable, in the meantime the Peugeot owner has a Peugeot he can't realistically even drive, and well, if you are going to just look at it, may as well buy a half-million-mile Ferrari, at least that's going to be a lot prettier, inside and out. So even then.

Clio 182 Trophy #001 recently sold for 45k. They don't make 'em like they used to!

Unless you've owned or driven an old school Peugeot, you can't describe the feeling they give you but just driving to the shop felt like a rally stage, they were like terriers straining at the lead constantly...My Peugeot catalogue had 205 1.6, 205 1.9, 306 TDi, 306 XSi, 405 Tdi and even the Diesels were blessed with brilliant handling, the engines just kept on going petrol or diesel but the rest of the car fell to bits and I still say the 205 1.6 was the most exciting thing I've owned but others would disagree.
I'm looking for a newish car that is as close to the feel and chuckabikity of a 306 - any suggestions given you had the lot back then?

Good luck, part of the appeal was the way they somehow combined the flow, feel and chuckability with a lovely supple ride. I drove a few 306, 405 and even a 406 back then and nothing has come close since. Our old mk7 Accord tourer on high profile 15 inch wheels isn't bad but the steering isn't nearly as good.

I've only driven one car that felt like old Peugeots and that was a clio 172, everything eles now is far to heavy and you are to comforted with nice interiors and lots of power and great brakes...Flakey 860kg Gti's without any electrical aids unfortunately dont exist anymore.

I'm wondering if a Megane 275 might be the nearest but haven't driven one.

Just want a little lift off oversteer, that's all.

Seems mad the asking price, but then again, cars like that with ultra low mileage, etc, have been attracting those asking prices for many years and they're not really aimed at most of us on here who'd rather just jump in it and use it as intended. It's nice to see that cars like this still exist though when you consider how many have have been written off, modified, etc, so it's nice to see one in it's original condition as it would have been new smile

I would buy it for around £30k. I inherited a mint 306 N/A 1.9D last year from my very last customer who sadly passed away. He owned the car from when it was only a few months old. I serviced it and did every repair. In 2008 we did a full mechanical restoration. By this time, eBay was going well so parts were dirt-cheap. Funnily enough, it was a new set of tyres and especially the power steering rack that really brought back the 'as new' feeling to the car. Alan, the owner, was 96 when he passed away. He must surely be the oldest operator of an XUD Diesel car in the world?
Having my own Peugeot/Citroen garage, I owe a lot to these cars that paid the bills and allowed me to have my hobby as my job...
I have a mint BMW E36 Touring that I also love. But the 306 will be the keeper.

I agree.
I remember test driving a 306 GTI back in the day.
My recollection is how amazing it was for the cost.
I was sensible and bought some thing else.

At 46k though. Wow. Sure you can't find another one

But you'll never be able to drive it. It's a collectors only item. Sort of defeats the purpose of a car that drives so well!

Still, probably safer investment than Crypto at the moment smile

I drove a few when they were new but it was the smaller 106Gti/Saxo VTS that impressed me more although 306 was still a fun car to drive

Note tested in wet conditions

According to the B of E inflation calculator it would cost £25k in todays market

The first decent car I ever drove was a Peugeot 306 XSi on a track experience day. Have to say, compared to the end of life MK3 Ford Escort 1.1 (un)popular I was driving at the time it felt incredible.

It just felt on another level, at the time the thought of even owning a car like that was pure fantasy.

306's did not have rear coil springs.

The rear was sprung with torsion bars, same as the 106/saxo/205/309/Xsara etc.

You'd think they'd have got that right, in some a comprehensive write-up

There’s barely an article written that doesn’t have some glitch in though. Look at the ones on here!

You say that, a Clio Trophy sold for 45k on Collecting Cars with higher mileage. Think there is a picture of it next to the new owner's Chiron doing the rounds.

This is a delivery mileage car, some of you don't seem to understand that it's a unicorn. Values go up exponentially on older cars for condition and mileage.

Take the blinkers off. It may be hard to accept, but there are people with the same enthusiasm as you with more to spend. The eventual buyer of this 306 is not comparing it to what else they can get for the money, because they already own them too.
does anyone have a link to the trophy with the chiron?

someone will buy this 306 at 40k imo, it's a 1 of 1
Here you go. Also believe he has a McLaren F1. And a 205 GTI.

Sorry to say but that Clio is not owned by the Chiron owner, that Clio is Charlie Metcalfe's (Harry Metcalfe's son), that photo I suspect was taken when Harry had the Chirron on loan for a few weeks.

That photo is even outside Harry's barn.

Edit: here is Harry with the Clio in question

I think the Chiron owner had a go in the Clio and then bought the 45k one shortly after as he liked it.

Having had a late Mk3 1.1 as a family runabout for a while I can well imagine an XSi felt amazing. Then again the RS Turbo felt like
a different car to the 1.1 too!!!

I wonder how much it would cost to take a merely "very good" one up to "perfect"?
Depending what you mean by 'perfect' easily more than 46k I'd have said.

So the article suggests 'Spotteds' have nothing to do with the money; so what happens on here, the usual high and mighty then proceed to diatribe on the price for said Peugeot. Sad really.
