RE: 2022 Toyota GR86 | PH Review

EVO's review here:

With some factually incorrect information (like you can only have it in red, white or black) - there's silver, grey and 2 hues of blue to choose from.
And although subjective, I think the new car looks a LOT better than the GT86 but hey, that's just me. Thought the old GT86 looked instantly forgettable.

I've had my GT86 for nearly 9 years from new and enjoy every minute driving it. I don't care about the torque dip or the fact that my daily will out accelerate it because the engagement you get with the car is so good. I love the fact that I can drive legally at 60 around the local B roads and feel the rear moving around. It's fun and puts a smile on my face. The GR86 should be the icing on an already very good cake.

For those who have missed out on the new car, give an old model a try that's had a few small tweaks, especially a different exhaust manifold, up pipe and remap. You won't have the headline power figure of the new car still but the removal of the torque dip makes a hugely improved car to drive. Definitely 1200 quid well spent on a second hand one.
Add in the MTEC shifter springs and Perrin shifter bush for an extra hundred quid and you get a much nicer gearshift than the slightly notchy standard shift.
I've had my BRZ for just coming upto a year and a half, as much as I'd like the new car, and i really want one badly, I'm not sure I could've justified one even if I could get one with doing the above mods and a few more extra. Plus I get the bonus of it being a rarer beast than the GT86.
Here's an obligatory picture for the sake of it

I think that makes it my perfect GT86/BRZ. I would prefer your car to the new car.

Really nice. I really like the GR86 but looks wise I find the GR a bit bland, anonymous. It also appears a bit crushed in the length of the car. In terms of looks I really prefer the GT86. Has much more character.
Thanks to both. Edited by _ppan on Friday 27th May 16:13
One of my friends has managed to get an order confirmed for the new car after driving mine, just waiting on a delivery date now. The plan is to take them both out to a decent road we know once it arrives and back to back them. Looking forward to trying the new one.

A manual supra is going to be what 15k more at least for the 2.0? Nothing gets close to this spec for spec at the 30k new. With a ten year warranty too.
I think the premium for the Supra is worth it in this case, it’s loads more tuneable (Would be rude not to add a stage 1 map) and has potential for a lot more fun (In manual) than the GR…. And is also more premium inside and out…MyV10BarksAndBites said:

You’ve still got the problem of having to push the car into very illegal speeds to have fun, most US GR’s and BRZ’s that have hit the dyno have been putting out 250bhp, with a tune, headers and exhaust that should rise to 270-280 which is pretty perfect in a lighter sportscar. More to life than power and speed though. My last ever new car to myself.
I'm so grateful to Toyota for making this car when other manufacturers are looking towards electric, and for keeping the price down. I expected it to be closer to 35k.
A possible 10 year warranty also, if Toyota keep their scheme going for servicing.
Looking forward to the reviews on UK roads.

You’ve still got the problem of having to push the car into very illegal speeds to have fun,. The extra torque, power and third pedal will make it more accessible at low speeds than the GR… You also have the option of putting on less grippy tyres if that’s your thing…
A twin test is in order I think… Would be interesting…
