Yes, as I said earlier, I take it back. I have revised my opinion of him this weekend.

That was a properly epic drive.

Horrendous thing to have as the lap record holder. Here's hoping they let some properly fast ICE hillclimb stuff run next year to get the record back.
Might as well try and beat the record riding a horse.

Times have moved on.
Agreed. The hills and sprints belong to EVs now, there’s just no getting near them with ICEs.

If you like your motorsport fossil fuel powered circuit racing will be staying that way for a fair few years yet.

Disagree. An F1 car would be faster, just they are banned from trying which is odd as this EV has broken the previous F1 car record.

No F1 car will be faster now - the McMurty has more power (1000hp), pretty much the same weight (they claim sub-1000kg) and a massive fan to generate downforce from 0mph. It's also tiny, so quicker up a narrow course compared to the massive modern F1 car.

Could an ICE car be built to be faster? Probably.

It's like with the World Land Speed Record. When jet-powered cars were mooted they were not eligible, and many felt they should never be. But that is Luddite thinking. Once they were allowed it was clear that wheel-driven cars were over for the absolute record.

You can still contest the Land Speed Record for wheel-driven cars but nobody cares.

So, in the same way, you can't halt progress and you can't just ignore EVs. They exist and one now holds the absolute record for the Goodwood Hill Climb.

Not a chance. The track is too narrow and too bumpy for a F1 car, and too slow to generate proper downforce, and too short to get proper heat into the tyres.

The Goodwood course is wholly unsuitable for a F1 car.

The previous record was a 1998 Mclaren Mp4 13, I still think a modern F1 car would be faster.

Was very impressive by Max & borderline insane regardless.

That thing was incredible! It’s small but a passenger ride in that would genuinely be breath taking!

I think the range in the 'standard road cycle' is something like 330 miles.

Think the target for racing is 20 to 40 minutes circuit time.

Plenty of people care, I know the holder of some of those records.

I was talking figuratively not literally. I am sure that some people care.

My point was that to many only the absolute record matters.

Nah everyone knows ICE would be faster, hence they banned F1 cars and the like from running.

I was at the FOS yesterday and sat in the grandstand opposite the house when this car went up the hill.

There was almost a stunned silence and laughs of disbelief in the grandstand as it passed - no one could believe how quick it looked on the straight. The sensation of speed is probably heightened by the fact that it followed a load of noisy ICE cars that were fast… but nothing like this.
I was there yesterday too and concur. The F1 cars, bikes, group c cars etc looked and sounded spectacular, but this thing was on another level. As soon as it had gone past there was a collective muttering of "what the fk, did you SEE that thing go?"

It was almost cartoonishly fast
