where is the price ceiling on these, people will pay anything if they think it's an investment - could they have still sold 25 @ £700k each?
I suspect someone somewhere in Prodrive is having a little cry about now...or clearing out their desk.

No problem. They can swap a few bits out, paint it a different colour and bang another 25 completely different "limited edition" cars out at £750k.

OK, flip it around then. If you were Prodrive, and you wanted a halo car as a demonstration of your engineering prowess to show off your company and celebrate all its achievements, what would you build if not a road-going WRC classic Impreza?
Quite. Not many people will remember this (which will prove the point I'm about to make), but...

They certainly didn't sell over £10m worth of these in the space of a week or two, even with a Top Gear appearance.

Also, I assumed the folk on PH were educated in car stuff enough to realise the one at FoS is clearly a development car?! The interior is usually the last thing to be signed off and I imagine will be bespoke to each client.

We weren't really in the crazy car investment bubble back then, were we?

I can remember being so disappointed when I saw the P2, not that I could have afforded one anyway!

That interior.

laugh
it looks a little bit of one of those kits that were made on subaru impreza chassis, but then way lighter, euhm, ah the Murtaya.
were the dash line goes over in the doorcards.

I would also like such RS200 kit with subaru parts, like this example>

or for a few pounds you could buy this FFR 818 coupe with Subaru engine

oke, all different to a lovely P25 which most can pay for, but just a few idea's what you can do with Subaru.

I'm surprised there was never an impreza based 7 kit given the number of old imprezas that exist.

Even an NA powered one would have been quite quick at 650-750kg.

The engine is too wide for a 7.

Not really sure the engine and gearbox lends itself very well to a seven, although someone who actually knows what they're talking about may correct me. The Murtaya was probably the closest. Shame they didn't do better really.

The engine is the wrong shape and in the wrong place for a 7. The engine is ahead of the front wheels in an Impreza, so you'd have to go RWD only in a 7 as you'd never get the front driveshafts to work.

fair enough, if they're instantly going to resell for £750k as suggested then it would make sense for them to make another 25 and retail them at least £600k+

It was a proper bubble burst for me too. I got to poke around it and sit in it on a Prodrive tour a couple of years ago.
I guess it was only a test mule really but after all the rave reviews I was shocked by quite how shonky it was up close inside and out. Have seen better put together kit cars.
Dunno if the P2 was ever planned for sale either?
Apparently it is broken and they don’t ever intend to fix it

The interesting thing in the P2 was the way the drivetrain worked.

They'll have them back each year for £30k of servicing work

Post count is 333, excluding this one. The thread should be shut down if it can make it all the way to 555.

If its built properly, it should only need a basic service with fluids and brake wear components.

Good point... I'd forgotten about that aspect.

Thanks folks.

Saw a video of it going up the hill. Didn’t sound very Impreza, was hoping for the full on Group A soundtrack but it was more like a recent BTCC

At least one of the three coming to Sheffield has a blue interior and gold wheels, so there’s clearly massive scope for buying spec.

Feels like I’ve emerged from a time machine back in 2001 now everyone’s moaning about the interior.

I’ve been told that it’s broken and they haven’t got any interest in fixing it too…consigned to the failbox maybe.

What was so special about the drivetrain John?
