You could build something that looks and drives very similar for about £50k. That's £410,000 left over to make it look pretty and add a bit more lightness. I can't wait to see where the money has gone.
Totally bespoke, hand built by some of the best Motorsport techs in the world, almost ‘one off’ parts, billet uprights, Motorsport grade sequential, carbon all over it.It was always going to be this kind of money, and no, 50 grand isn’t going to give you a similar experience.
People saying it’s too expensive are wrong, if it was too expensive it wouldn’t be sold out. Simple.

How is that remotely comparable? https://www.autoscout24.nl/aanbod/subaru-others-22...

Looks very similar to a track car a mate has. His is about 600 bhp and I'm sure he hasn't sank half a mill into it.
You can’t seriously compare a homebrew build with something engineered and built by Prodrive from scratch surely? Not to mention exclusivity, warranty and meeting whatever regs vehicles have to meet these days to be roadworthy.
I’d give my left bk for one and use it everyday whilst I’m still able to, before ice cars get banned or I kick the bucket.
I don't think there's any point discussing the price. This isnt your average 'leave your 100k mile car for a tuneup' type of build. This is multiple people on full time pay including pensions and taxes working for months to make sure just 25 cars will be as good as a gc8 can get with everything brand new and lots of it custom made or expensive motorsport grade st.
Sure you can 'build something with almost the same performance for 1/10' in your shed but this type of stuff is like everything else, the cost is exponential to performance and finish.
Manhours are probably 2/3 of the cost here. Forget that it's based on a known design. Imagine any renowned company producing only 25 cars that is not a Westfield, and you will get close to these prices.

Oddly enough the first thought I had was I just hope it doesn’t have equal length headers. You need that off beat burble. I do hope they haven’t engineered that quirk out. The character would be so diminished if they have.
Equal length headers sound fantastic on this engine when opened up. It's still very distinctive and technically is far superior.Arsecati said:
Reading through all that, I was damn near drooling, as it all sounded utterly divine.
Then got to the 'the dashboard is said to feature a full-width high-definition multi-page display', and I kinda cringed a little bit, getting terrible visions of the interior of a new Golf.
And then I got to the price.........
Ahhhh well..... I guess it's not for me then!!
Agreed, that is cringeworthy. Is it trying to be a luxury saloon Mercedes with that dash? Then got to the 'the dashboard is said to feature a full-width high-definition multi-page display', and I kinda cringed a little bit, getting terrible visions of the interior of a new Golf.

£552,000 Oh dear.
To be fair. it looks amazing. It needs smaller wheels though, as they look a bit silly.
Surely just go buy a delivery mileage (apparently there are still some out there) 22B that has the provenance of being the original. It also comes with a manual gearbox.
Well that's a missed opportunity. I thought they would price them at £555k To be fair. it looks amazing. It needs smaller wheels though, as they look a bit silly.

I know that equal length headers are superior. Personally I’d forgo a bit of grunt for a bit of old school grumble! Bang bang anti lag would bad news for the motor as well but I’d love it! Either way unless I find a couple of gold bars down the back of the sofa it’s for the birds! Moskvich said:

Take your existing GC8 to RCM and give them £50k and you might wonder where the extra £450/500k went on this.Sure you can 'build something with almost the same performance for 1/10' in your shed but this type of stuff is like everything else, the cost is exponential to performance and finish.

Picked this up a year ago, a WRX V Ltd from 1996 built to commemorate McRae winning the WRC.
Full RCM 2.35 built from a 2.2 CDB, 6 speed box, AP Calipers all round.
Paid £24k for it during covid. 550k for an impreza is bonkers, even the 22b’s are devoid from reality given they were potentially bettered by the 5/6th gen classics.
