All of you lot moaning about 'forgettable' design...

at least this doesn't look like the BMW iX!!!
Dare I say it, I drove past a BMW dealer the other day and saw an iX. Didn't look half as bad as I'd originally thought, and at least it has some character. Other manufacturers seem hell-bent on making their mainstream EV range inoffensive to the point of utter blandness.

At last, an EV that actually looks like a proper car instead of a bloody great tank.

Just another EV that no one will be able to afford.

But it's the way forward and at some point I'd like one. Trouble is, I live in a terrace with no off street or allocated parking. Not sure how charging points will work in the many, many terraces like this across the country.

This seems to be problem at the minute; a design can be distinctive (e.g. you can't mistake a Tesla for anything else, the brand has strong visual cues), balanced and otherwise well executed, but if it's not visually busy and aggressive then it's perceived as boring.

So we end up with modern BMWs...

If this wasn't an EV then it would basically be a new passat. A humdrum ICE car..........

It would have to be a fking massive charging station to be able to deliver the same hourly throughput as one petrol pump though.

And there would have to be something to do while the car charged.

Maybe everyone gets a free Ginsters to keep them occupied?

I'm assuming with the ever increasing ID range, the conventional line-up of cars like the Passat and Golf will be phased out over time? Would there be any point in an EV Golf and an ID hatchback? I've also heard rumours there will be a retro ID with nods to the beetle
I highly doubt that the Golf nameplate will disappear after how famous it is. I can see the first true EV Golf to look like like a mash between Golf features and the ID3’s aerodynamic bodyshell. The ID.3 name will either go or be repurposed into something else. Same with the Polo, and the Touareg.

I reckon the Passat will be killed off though, sales have been dropping like a stone in the past 20 yrs. A new name will freshen up the range no end.

Actually, 3 isofix would be a game changer for many. Good call.

I think Hyundai and are doing a beter job than VW & BMW.

I don't like Mercedes' EV, but their other designs are their best in years.

Agreed. The Ioniq 6 preview videos that landed on YouTube this week make this look dated already.

There are lot's more of those around too now
