There was also the Nissan Sunny ZX turbo as well. Used to walk past one in my local village and had quite a bodykit on it. Looked very pumped up.
Must have been an import as IIRC the only UK Sunny factory turbo was the GTI-R.
Might have been a Cherry Turbo?
Wasn't a Cherry, I'm sure it was either a G or H reg, leaning more to the H reg. I'll see if I can find an image.

Pretty much looked like this.

That's a B12 ZX Coupe, fitted with same engine as the N13, a CA18DE or possibly a 1.6 version CA16DE. Wasn't a turbo though, well not for the UK market.
Must have been an import then. The one in the picture is JDM. It definitely had ZX Turbo stickers on the back and down the doors.

Don't think anyone has mentioned the Daihatsu Charade DeTomaso Turbo yet...

I love the 80s style stickers. cool
I always liked that car’s 90s equivalent the Cuore Avonzato especially popular as a entry level rally car around the millennium.

Been mentioned earlier in the thread.

For me this is my absolute favourite 90s car. I don't know why I didn't buy one years ago but now they're too long in the tooth.

Just the name makes me smile: Daihatsu Cuore Avanzato TR-XX R4. Overkill perhaps? Nah! laugh
Ironically far too long a name to actually fit on the teeny little hatch

Opel Kadett SuperBoss

SA version of the Astra GTE on steroids. 170BHP (228NM of torque!! which was a N/A per litre record until beaten by the 458) and LSD as standard. In 1990 there was nothing that could touch it. It would take a good decade for anything to come out with both the power and torque of this thing.

Interesting. I always felt the 155hp quoted output of the redtop was rather conservative, they always seems to go rather better than advertised. Was it essentially the same engine?

I did drive an Astra with a rally car sourced LSD and it did transform the car, the basic car was very much the starting point for a great rally/race car rather than the finished article in my view, alterations to the suspension and transmission could make a huge difference.

My uncle had the ordinary Sunbeam Lotus many years ago. 2.2 twin cam 16v weren't they?

Along the same lines and at about the same time iirc there was also the Chevette HS with the 2.3 engine.
Blimey a VH Chevette takes me back!

Saw one of these today in Stratford, East London - Yaris GRMN. First one I've seen since they were launched in 2017.

400 cars were sent to Europe and of which 100 came to the UK. Looked very nice in the flesh compared to pictures. Really do like the look now.

Discussed earlier in the thread. Been looking at these but might be a bit too small for me. Not too sure on the dashboard as well.

Ah....didn't see that, sorry.

I love small compact cars and that looked just right. Actually looked bigger in the flesh compared to pictures.
I do agree though they look a cracking little motor. Sounds lairy as well when the supercharger winds up.

Mazda 323 4x4 Turbo
I had an early one of them 88 _E reg in an orangey red colour - was a bit of a let down not quick enough , soft suspension and brakes not great.

What about a Mazda 323 1.5 GT - their first attempt at a sporty 323 after they went from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive - how many hatchbacks have that in their history ? Original round shape 323 was rear wheel drive .
Toyota Corolla.

I remember a local red 3 door Nova 1.5 TD raking around in the mid 90s. It was rare then and surprisingly rapid compared to the usual stuff we were driving around in our late teens.
My mate had one of these at around the same time, felt fast as f**k! Unfortunately got nicked from outside his house after a few months.
My mum had one, which I then used for a few years. Not absolutely sure I'd describe it as rapid, although it went well enough, the main benefits were absolutely bulletproof reliability (mine went to 225k before the rear beam rusted through) and 70mpg back when 45-50mpg was considered decent.

Honda Civic GTI - Mk3 I think - mid 80s.

My mum had one, in fact the photo here that Google threw up is her exact one as I recognise the reg, or what you can see of it. The owner has put new alloys on and removed the GTI sticker than ran across the bottom of the doors.

She sold it 15+ years ago now to a guy in Kent. Mechanically it was okay but the rust lurking underneath was terrible. He knew they were rare and put the hours in sorting it out.

Off you pop then, no one forcing you to be here. Just because no one replied to your other trolling post.
