But what's telling to me is that in the first clip people in the comments (rightly) condemned the cyclist going too close to the pedestrian - but no one even commented on the taxi driver doing exactly the same thing.
It's almost as if there's a confirmation bias going on...
Different scenarios. It's almost as if there's a confirmation bias going on...
The taxi traversed the crossing when it was unoccupied by pedestrians. Unlike the rogue cyclist who attempted to traverse whilst pedestrians were crossing.
If the taxi had attempted the same manoeuvre, he would have been rightly castigated...
The taxi driver traversed the crossing whilst there was a pedestrian on it.
He relied on timing to avoid hitting the pedestrian, just like the cyclist relied on timing to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
But no-one castigated the motorist...

I know that crossing well..... and you are right. If you dont do what the taxi did, you will be waiting until after rush hour to cross. But no one said anything about that. The taxi driver traversed the crossing whilst there was a pedestrian on it.
He relied on timing to avoid hitting the pedestrian, just like the cyclist relied on timing to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
But no-one castigated the motorist...

Suspect you don't understand how pedestrian crossings function when divided by a central island. That 'Look Left' painted on the tarmac, is a clue. The taxi driver traversed the crossing whilst there was a pedestrian on it.
He relied on timing to avoid hitting the pedestrian, just like the cyclist relied on timing to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
But no-one castigated the motorist...
Edit: But to make matters clear, they should be treated as two separate crossings with pedestrians taking temporary refuge on the island. Drivers do not need to stop for pedestrians crossing the opposing carriageway.

After complaints, 95% of green lanes were downgraded to bridleways and footpaths several years ago. Liberty to ride motorbikes off-road is almost dead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Pa6BncMNz4

The pedestrian and the taxi driver are on the same carriageway.
The fact that the pedestrian hasn't yet cleared the "look left" painted on the tarmac, is a clue.

Unless you are a keen cyclist, you won't be travelling above 20mph on the road for very long, unless going downhill.
20mph is quite difficult to achieve on a flat road. The cyclist would need to be strong.About 1% of people could maintain 20mph for 10 mins.
A car Speedo will be quite unreliable at low speeds.

It's always amusing to read your insults when you run out of steam. And the smileys are a nice touch.
What insults? And plenty of steam here It's always amusing to read your insults when you run out of steam. And the smileys are a nice touch.

I know how pedestrian crossings function thanks. But the central island is irrelevant in this instance.
The pedestrian and the taxi driver are on the same carriageway.
The fact that the pedestrian hasn't yet cleared the "look left" painted on the tarmac, is a clue.
Apologies - I was referring to the taxi in the video The pedestrian and the taxi driver are on the same carriageway.

We never engage with angry walkers , there is no point. We just ride on.

No insults there at all. Thinks nobody. And you haven't got an argument when a headbutt is 'evidence of how cyclists interact with pedestrians'.
