Top marks for putting your shoulder to the wheel on this over the years, and the car is a beautiful testament to your work.
Personally I feel that this is the sort of car that I really love the idea of owning and running, but in reality I suspect I’d find it all too much of a PITA to live with. Inadequate levels of dedication, I suppose!

What a machine!
There's a kind of jealousy that only car guys, I think, really get. You really, really want to own it yourself, but can't, so you're kind of envious of the owner, but at the same time you're very glad people like him exist and keep cars like these going. The world would be a much poorer place without cars and owners like this.

Yes, like the guys I know who own Carrera GT's. Arrive anywhere -t rack day, car meet etc. - and they're greeted like demi Gods, but away from all that, they have to take a good kick in the sponge every time the thing is in for a major service. I couldn't afford it, but I am so glad there are people that not only can, but do.There's a kind of jealousy that only car guys, I think, really get. Kudos to the people who do the hard yards with all these vehicles. As BlackWidow13 says, there are times when the running costs must make owners question the way forward.
Fantastic write up. Thank you.
We quickly forget about enjoying these things while we can.
I had a 1985 3.2 Carrera nearly 20 years ago and stupidly sold it, for what seems a pittance now, when we bought a house. I have regretted it every day since. I could have, and should have made the numbers work for the joy of ownership.
Drive it, enjoy it and keep it forever.
Miss you B905 BRO...

A great article Gary - expect to see your car featured in Christophorus sometime soon!
And the green is spot on. Awesome car.
Have to disagree with you on one thing: Condorman is a classic! Yes special effects aren't what they should have been, but the car chases still give many a modern flick a run for their money...

It's a good read. Ten years ago I found a '73 2.4T CIS in Florida when I was travelling on business, and had it brought back to the UK. It was incredibly solid, but mechanically neglected and the interior and body had been messed with.
In hindsight I made a number of errors, first was to ship it to a well known specialist to go through it, and produce a reliable, safe car with the emphasis on 'fun to drive'. A five figure bill later it broke down on the way home....
With the encouragement of some of the great great people on DDK, I then embarked on a full bare metal restoration to a 'warm rod' specification. Much financial pain later which included two engine rebuilds (and this with zero body work required) it was finished. While it looked great, it was still a 50 year old car; I can remember a miserable 100 mile motorway trip on a baking hot day, with all the windows open being deafened by the noise and buffeted by the wind. It had cooled down a bit by the time I reached local B roads, and in comparison the next 25 miles on twisty Sussex lanes were an absolute joy.
I had to off load it to recover some of the costs and avoid what seemed like endless bills; I believe it now resides in Taiwan.

I sent this to two Porsche driving friends, it’s exactly why we all own cars like this. They both responded positively, one actually knows of you from group meets and a certain wine event in Cobham recently.
Anyway this article was brilliant and accurately reflects the proper car enthusiast. It’s not always about the money or the latest GT.
Thank you.
