Can a supercar have 4 seats/a back row of seats? The Gransport, Cerbera, 911 and GTR all do. I don’t think they qualify personally.

I agree. I own a Gransport, and its a GT car, really.

Beautiful and a real event, for sure, but no supercar despite the supercar engine.

Brings back memories, lovely thumbup very few cars stack up to the noise made by them, 2007 midnight paris tunnel run in ours was one of my best motoring experiences smile

Me and one of my mates were at TOTB at Elvington the other week, and there was a standard 720S going down the runway/drag strip, and we both said how slow it looked! It just shows how that event spoils you for fast cars I reckon(I've seen some mega fast stuff there over the years).

Never ever did I think that there would come a time when I'd describe a McLaren 720S as slow! Once the 720S is tuned up/modded...then I would imagine that it will be quick then though.
Oh wow didn't realise that was still going. Used to love that and even entered the 200sx in the RWD category for about 3 or 4 years, last one about 2012.

Light, 400bhp, really well sorted chassis was enough to make the top 5 RWD handling shoot out, but could not beat Caterfield type cars with turbo engines and aero etc, plus some had started using Pro drivers by then.

Nice one! coolthumbup

I've enjoyed it for near on 20 years now. I went in 2003/4/5/6, but then I didn't go again until 2018, and then I did 2019 and again this year.

It is still a brilliant event for seeing really fast cars for sure. beer

Money no object, the XJ220 is lovely - but it has to be an F1, doesn’t it?
Yeah, odd how the article harps on about value for money under the 'money no object' section heading, XJ220 is decent value but far from outright top.

I'd probably go for the GMA T33 if I didn't care about the cash, having more classically beautiful proportions than the radical three-seat cars - I only really need one passenger seat I think anyway.

Or... the Pagani Zonda 760 LH, a spectacular lightweight supercar in my favourite colour, owned by the greatest F1 driver of the age

In my 3 supercar garage the 720, Scud and XJ220 will do very well. I think the McClaren is an excellent piece of kit, shattering performance and great looks and the 430 Scuderia is just a top notch Ferrari while the 220 looks like something you'll never see on the road. Excellent.

The noise, interior and looks are the reason I bought it! I'm a shallow and easily pleased man. Recorded this as my friend left our place to take it for a trip to France.

It's no supercar, but it feels very exotic, and they are absolute bargains. Mine has done 40k miles and feels outstanding to drive.

ETA you have to click the link a second time for the video to work for some reason, if you like dirty Italian V8 noises.

All lovely cars - my reading of the supercar standard is that heads turn - anyone of these cars would do that.
I'd say if they turn heads of anyone. All these cars will turn heads of those in the know but I think the: Honda, Maserati, Nissan and TVR would just be another car to most folk.

Edit: 911 is borderline.

I would agree, to a certain extent. I own a GranTurismo and quite often have discussions regarding its “supercar” status.

It is certainly a super car. It has a Ferrari V8. It turns heads at every corner. It goes like stink when provoked and it sounds like the Gods are having a huge argument.
But it is possibly a bit ‘bland’ to fully tick the supercar box, as much as it pains me.

It does however seem to be on the “supercar” list at quite a number of venues, so clearly someone has decided that they are worthy of the classification?

I suppose the defining question for me would be; What would people classify it as if it had a Ferrari badge on the nose?

A GTR is not a supercar. I even had a vote on Instagram.

Nah - supercars have engines behind the seats.

XJ220 is a supercar ( and let’s leave it there - mega and hyper are prefixes swapped in by people with product they can’t shift). Whereas a sports car is an albeit limited market it is within the realm of mass production , whereas a supercar is more preposterous than purposeful. Everything bar the Jag is an imposter on the list and really the category supercar is not best suited to the ascending price band model that has been used elsewhere.

I’ve had my M12 12 years and don’t plan on letting it go just yet. It’s a proper driver’s car and - if it matters - it still gets shouts, nods, smiles, applause, and the occasional “nice Ferrari”.

I’ve owned a couple of others on the list but they’ve gone.

I'd rather have his F1....

A Cerb over a 997 turbo? And I'd pick the much cheaper Noble over an NSX, sure you could kid yourself the NSX was designed, hand built and raced by Senna himself. But that feeble engine wont save you from getting duffed up by hot hatches.
Wouldn’t be duffed up by hot hatches from the same era though.

A Lamborghini miura, the original ‘supercar’, would probably be duffed up on the road by a modern 320d, but it’s still a supercar, whereas a 320d isnt.

A sales reps Tesla model 3 would, on the road, outperform probably 90% if the worlds supercars built since the miura too.

2 things are true though, supercars are mid engined and have 2 seats (with the exception of 3 in the F1), and at 25k, gransports are a bargain, even if they are a GT car and not a supercar.

I've always thought of the Ferrari Daytona and Shelby Cobra as supercars. You post about Teslas and 320d's, if that's what floats your boat.

991 Turbo and Cerbera for me, the 720S is a astoundingly quick car too.

I doubt many people are buying an NSX for its straight-line performance, so I don't think it really matters.

Thanks, always ready to listen to that masterpiece smile

The reason i bought one (owned for 6 years) was thanks to two F355s running side by side at a Vmax event in 2004 (1:13 in https://youtu.be/r4E88LRcNOE) but didnt want a Ferrari, never looked back, cambiocorsa not the best but when you learn to interact with it correctly, it was fine.

Later I had the Granturismo model in 4.7 guise to replace it and it was nowhere near being as good imo, not an upgrade in any way..

Someone in a purple Cerbera stopped & recorded mine on the paris midnight tunnel run, i’ll see if i can find it..
