Drivers who hog the middle lane fit the definition of morons.

They are foolish or stupid; they act as though affected by mild intellectual disability.
Well, that’s why they aren’t called Middle Lane Experts by all the people who actually can read and understand the Highway Code.

It’s Middle Lane MORONS, because it’s the most accurate description, for someone who is too stupid to understand or accept that their use of the roads is incorrect, both legally and morally.

I don't believe that, not one bit. MLM's know they shouldn't sit in the middle lanes but choose to do so. It isn't that they don't understand the Code nor that they refuse to accept that they are technically in the wrong (unlike those who believe the Code is wrong for speeding and that they know better).

They make a calculated choice to remain in the middle lanes because it suits them to do so - laziness likely being the main reason.

Whereas those who deliberately go much faster that the speed limits do so out of arrogance and an assumption that those who decide speed limits on any given stretch are idiots and should be ignored. It's these law breakers who are the true moron's. biggrin

Twice in two days I’ve seen large white vans driven on the outside lane of NSL dual carriageways doing about 50 if that. For miles.
They clearly had no idea what they were doing was wrong.because I was one of a few that, having given them every chance of moving over, just passed on the inside.

Perhaps even more pathetic was the queue who stayed behind them in the outside lane, presumably not daring to pass.

White van drivers are special hehe

Large vans have 56mph rigid limiters if they are over 3500kg (4250kg for electric). Still no excuse for camping in the outside lane irked

So anyone exceeding 70 mph:

- Is foolish or stupid

- Acts as though affected by intellectual disability

- Has low intelligence

Could you explain how you came to that assertion please?

Also what does the use of inappropriate apostrophes reveal about a person's intellect?

They're morons. No amount of discussion about the reasons they do it will alter the outcome. Call it any way you want, but they're pond life, as are those that defend them.

You should know. If you're pontificating about speeding and are doing so because you expect us to believe you never speed, you're the biggest moron on here. And a hypocrite. among other things.

there was one on the a12 yesterday holding everyone up, when he eventually got over when it became briefly 3 lanes, it turns out he was on the phone texting. c*nt.

Nah - PastelNata is the type who sticks rigidly to speed limits, no matter how ridiculous. Removes the need for conscious thought.

Are MLM’s on par with dual carriageway morons, driving through Aberdeen last week, Anderson Drive quite a long dual carriageway with numerous roundabouts, van in the outer lane, no idea as there was nothing on the inside lane.

Speed limit 40, quite a few passed him on the inside, at a roundabout he went straight over still in outside lane, me inside cc 40, just about to pass him slowly, he indicates and pulls over in front of me, and turned left at the next roundabout. I had to just about do an emergency brake.

The van was a local, just wasn’t paying attention, that incident is one reason I try not to undertake on motorways in case they decide to do a signal, manoeuvre and maybe look…..

Moron is not a word anyone should use. Perhaps you should research its derivation...
Moron (noun)

1: a foolish or stupid person

2: a person affected with mild intellectual disability

Which is exactly what I meant yes
Yes but what is your evidence? Does anyone who transgresses any other motoring rule fall foul and become a moron also?
The crashes I have had, can be wholly attributed to one particular moron behind the wheel.
Whilst I might attempt to put the blame partly on other cretinous imbeciles, the actually fault was all mine. On each occasion, the normal driving God that I usually am, became temporarily a moron.

Just reading about a motorists undertook a MLM on the M74 and slammed on the brakes forcing the other car to stop, so assuming he pulled over to block the car he had passed, got out to speak to him and a van ploughed into the stationary cars.

Beyond stupid, yet to be sentenced.

Take care out there people.

M4 8:15 yesterday morning between J10 and 8/9. 4 lane 'smart' motorway

Newish Porsche 911 in horrible primer grey sticking to lane 3 when lanes one and two are empty....

...was undertaken by a black pick-up truck sticking in lane 2 when lane 1 was empty.

Followed both for miles as they stuck to 'their' lanes.

Coming back there was the usual driver who went straight to lane 3 when joining even though the slip road becomes lane 1.

Fast lane mentality, they maybe thinking “Well I am going fast, so I am in the fast lane”.

But they weren't going particularly fast and the lane 2 car was going faster than the lane 3 car. I was close behind doing about 70 in lane 1. Nothing else on the motorway.

70 mph is not fast.

Back in 1959, fast meant 100 mph. That was a design criterion for British motorways. We aspired to 100 mph travel. The opportunity was thrown away.

Probably yes. But it isn't going to change is it?

Isn't it less stressful to accept others failings and idiosyncrasies. Other than those with poor lane discipline there will be those that consider speed limits do not apply to them. They are all just really poor drivers.
Middle lane hogging was made an offence back in 2013. So an attempt has been made to improve matters albeit with limited effect. Education 'adverts' and Move Left signs would help.

Most of my motorway driving today involves towing a large car transporter. I am not permitted in the outside lane. So MLMs can present a significant inhibiter to making progress.

Actually playing with MLMs can be good sport rather than stressful. Know I shouldn't do it but sometimes I can't resist.

Please don't get me started on our ridiculously low speed limits only suitable for morons.
Middle lane hogging was not made an offence in 2013.

The law in relation to it did not change, it has always had to be dealt with under s3 RTA where it's considered appropriate to.

What did happen was that a disposal change was made that allowed FPNs to be issued for s3 RTA offences, prior to that they couldn't be issued for s3 RTA.
