Most tasteless new car on sale
Discussion
I'd say this is tasteless because of how unnecessary it is in the UK market.
The traditional G Wagon is great, there is a thread in readers cars about a guy who has had a few "classic" g wagons and they look wonderful. But what is the point of this in England?
At what point is this going to be needed when a standard G Wagon wouldn't cut it?
In my opinion it is a vulgar, unnecessary tool uses to prove to the world how important someone thinks they are. Perhaps that's a reflection of my own personality. If I had the means, I'd buy a LOT of other cars before this.
I just think it is a bit crap in England. Greenland or somewhere like that? Sure go explore, but a central London side street? Nah. (Wouldn't fit, anyway!)
I don't see either the Mercedes or Urus as being tastless, I'm not particulalry fond of either and unlikely ever to be in a position to have to consider if they are or are not, but for the sake of this thread, not tasteless out of interest whats your number one tasteless car on sale, I'm struggling a bit to get something that truly fits my definition. O keep choosing things that I'd consider vulgar, but does that automatically make them tasteless maybe not? Also ugly or beautiful doesn't really collate. Guess it can be tricky to define. Personally I think the Merc is tasteless in Brabus form (strangely I kinda like it). Though would say the Lambo is vulgar but not necessarily tasteless. Its one of those topics where there isn't really a right or wrong answer. It's really difficult isn't it? I suggested Rolls Royce Cullinan earlier, or at least a modified one, but I think they are hideous so perhaps I am confusing an aesthetic dislike with tasteless. I consider them vulgar as you say, can we conflate vulgarity and tasteless? It's all down to environment as well, isn't it? The Mercedes pictured may be 'tasteless' in the wrong environment, yet used for what it was designed, its a pretty awesome piece of kit. This thread has turned into one about ugly, or what individuals think are ugly, cars. I'd consider something like a stretch limo, or stretch Hummer tastless, yet, they serve a purpose. Some might consider John Lennon's Rolls or Joplin's 356 tasteless yet I adore them both. pretty much spot on, tricky indeed. The Rolls Royce is an interesting one. A look at old rollers compared to new and my opinion changes. A modern Rolls saloon compared to say a Maybach? I think most (not all) people, even non PHers, will look a Phantom or a Ghost and be intruiged, interested or even delighted. The Cullinan on the other hand is likely to evoke a different response, possibly of disgust. Is it a big SUV thing I wonder.

haha yeah, the biggest expedition that will go on is to Bicester outlet village or top level of a UAE multistorey car park. There is a bloke not to far from here who has a similar 4 wheeled version. Its a very unusual thing to see parked up (post McDonald's drive through) and see a small chap with his very tall blonde wife hop out and take their daughter to the park. Think he still also has an orange Urus. Chatted to him in the past about the Urus as that thing really stands out.up_shift said:
At the risk of sounding unpopular, I find most AMGs over done and tasteless these days. GT aside..
I'd agree, same with sporty Audis, they used to blend into the crowd, only car fans would notice if they were RS or not, now they look like they look angry and very shouty.bungz said:
Saw a absolutely hideous Q4 Sportback e-tron today.
Front of it looks like its face has been ripped off.
What is under the bonnet that makes the bonnet line so high? Just what's in there, air? A big spare wheel?Front of it looks like its face has been ripped off.
And it can't be batteries that cause the waistline to be high, too, since the lower door line is fairly low.
A classy take on a similar shape was the B5 Passat. Look at the height of that glasshouse!

Personally I like the fact that BMW are not afraid to challenge this preconceived idea of how cars 'must' look.
If that's not for you then VAG will no doubt have something up your street.
And do you really think they were going to give up having some form of kidney grille, the single most identifiable feature of a BMW?
My goodness, you never fail to deliver on the passive aggressive comments. Tell us, whats it like having no friends? If that's not for you then VAG will no doubt have something up your street.

Keep wrangler, especially ones with a lifter kit and big wheels, it’s just so utterly tragic, can’t decide if it’s trying to be a defender alternative, a ww1 re enactment vehicle a life style 4x4 for the Californian sunshine or something else
It works in Miami but in rainy Luton it’s just so tasteless and god awful, I think it’s the car I hate the most

Why? The X6 looks pretty good to me, well proportioned.
Gonna have to expand the X6 subjective, arbitrary tasteless judgment to all so-called “coupe” SUVs. They’re a baffling genre until one remembers that some people primarily buy cars that are functional, some that are great to drive and others buy one that…….says something about the driver. The so-called coupe-SUV is (in my own, subjective opinion) designed to say: “Look the fk at me, I’m awesome and you’re a halfwit. Get the fk out of my way, I’m IMPORTANT”. I do know a few people who drive these and I would not choose to socialise with them. They all conform to my half baked stereotype.
I mean, look at these munters. They haven’t been bought for beauty and they’re less functional than the models on which they’re based. Case closed, m’Lud.
