Am I correct in saying C63 should have been C62 ..?
Yes, it was a 6.2.
5.4L "C55"
6.2L "C63"
4.0L "C63"
2.0L "C63"

so in that regard, it's following family tradition wink

Feel like I'd just get the C43 though (or an M3 tbh) - if you're not getting the V8, why get this?

Why bother?
You raise an interesting point there. For me I'd still rather have this than the Tesla...because I still have a weird fetish for an ICE for some reason(even if it is only a 4 pot). However I'd imagine that the majority now would much prefer the Tesla though in comparison.

A Tesla is seen as cool nowadays(or any EV for that matter), whereas an ICE seems to be touted as the root to all evil in comparison I reckon.

I absolutely see the point of a V8 over the Tesla, even though it’s slower, but this - no soundtrack, no manual (not that AMGs ever had one, but it’s a thing EVs don’t have), heavier, slower. Better looking and probably a more expensive feeling and more conventional interior, but the drivetrain seems an exercise in pointlessness.

Because they are the motoring equivalent of a Patagonia fleece.

Tesla are also gimmick ridden and also extremely ugly.

Mercedes are struggling with electrical issues on a normal car. The latest mercs are not without their issues. The more complicated the more will fail and damage reliability.

The BHP is the only USP whereas the V8's had more reasons for you to buy one, I think Mercedes missed a trick by not using their straight six hybrid found in the E53.

Petrolhead is a fairly broad term if we are being honest. People love cars for very different reasons.

Take my very good mate. He loves his performance cars. He has an E46 M3. Utterly immaculate and low mileage. It looks fantastic in carbon black. Except it's convertible with smg. When I eventually got to drive it, maybe a year after he got it I swiftly stuck it into sport mode; " Oh, I don't think I have ever had it in sport mode...." he declared. After we stopped he also suggested that I had driven it harder than he ever had. I didn't drive hard at all save for a couple of half decent bursts of acceleration coming onto the A14.

He loves his cars and is most certainly a petrolhead, but he's not a driver. True driving enthusiasts understand that sometimes much less is very much more.

One gets the feeling that any of these modern performance turbo hybrid cars, are going to be a maintenance nightmare out of warranty. 2032 Brave Pill contender already, this one.

Substitute something electric made in the Fatherland if you prefer, it’s still not much heavier than this (ah, that German engineering, eh?)

This will be a huge success.

Sorry, Koenigsegg have beaten them to it with the Gemera. smokin

I'm sure it's a fantastic car, and I probably will have to hand in my PH badge, but my present car at 184bhp hybrid is the most powerful and fastest to 0-60 car that I have had. Beats my V6 Saab 900 and 2.3 LPT Saab 9000 (just). I can't conceive what 4x the power is like.
Of course! Great knowledge

I'd actually really dislike being a car manufacturer in many ways currently. I'm no expert, but it doesn't seem like full EVs have really taken off yet(too expensive for many people I think). Plus you still have manufacturers faffing around with cars that are stuck bang in the middle like this one...as in "are we going full electric or are we staying with an ICE?"

Nobody seems to know where the balance is.

Would be like fitting the insides of a microwave into an AGA. It would do the job but completely misses the point!

I guess they’re struggling to find a way to continue to monetise a sub-brand based pretty much entirely on its ICEs.

I was sad to see the V8 go.
But that is impressive stuff.
Quite fancy a C63 estate smile

Sure it’ll be immense and ‘better’ than all previous generations.

But is it special…. Starts to bring in a similar question to EVs - are you just buying a badge now- where is the specialness, the USP.

Can fake an authentic AMG sound all you like…. But a real rumble of a V8 That was a key if not principle attribute.

I know not much Mercedes can do- but it is not the same.

A technical tdf. Looks great in wagon form. Imagine the calibration to get it to work.
I like it.
If you wanted one car to do it all is a candidate for sure.

Surely it's a C20 not a C63?...
Nomenclature hasn't meant a damn thing for a good while now

Audi A3 4.0 TDI anyone?
BMW 745i in the 70's which had a 3.3
Am I correct in saying C63 should have been C62 ..?
iirc the original 745i was in fact a 3.2, turbocharged, the thinking being at the time that a turbo was supposed to add 40% more power (3.2 x 1.4 = 4.5 approx). I'll get my coat etc...
