Always been a fan of big fast estate cars, owned a couple, this leaves me completely cold.

Great news - for anyone who has the old one, which surely isn’t going to depreciate much now.

All that technical complexity to achieve 2,111kg, 680bhp, and a fake soundtrack.

Why bother?

Should have at least kept a six-cylinder with the PHEV system. If BMW, Porsche, Audi and Land Rover can manage that why can't Mercedes do the same?

Was very interested in reading this for all the wrong/right reasons…

Came away with very impressive performance and tech…

The 2ltr is nothing special on its own.. If you know anything about the lightly modified new school hot hatches (Not to take anything away from its installation in the A45 AMG as that also proves my point and it’s brilliant in that car)

The stuff about sound was disturbing and just awful…

And that all this tech and looks would be way more bombastic and sound way more outrageous with the previous V8…

So feels like a huge compromise for me and no longer worthy of that 63 AMG badge…. 680hp or not…

Sometimes it's not just about power. About 0-60, about speeds, about where that power is deployed.

It's about a feeling, a kind of shiver and fear and excitement when an engine starts, the wide eyed look when the power starts to come on, the noise, the sheer visceral connection.
This is the perfect summary of how the motoring industry have gone wrong for petrolheads, at least in my opinion.

It's seems like it's just a big willy waving contest these days to see who can make the most power. And most consumers just lap it up because they don't care about that "feeling".

I get why they do it, they're businesses at the end of the day and are there to make the most money possible. But most new cars just leave me cold now.
Totally. A car created entirely for people who think driving enjoyment or motoring enthusiasm is all about Top Trumps figures and straight line heroics on their local bypass, and without a doubt a total hand grenade to own out of warranty too.
Hmm, the A45 seems to last well, be interesting to see how this fares.

I would imagine the acceleration will be intense, and sixty will be a number starting with a 2
Article claims 3.4, which seems "slow" given the power output, 4WD and electrical assistance. Clearly, it isn't slow though. The A45s may be holding up well, it'd be interesting to see what these are like in 15 years time if the hybrid stuff goes awry.

For me it doesnt matter how much power it has, sound is the biggest element of a car, and itll sound like every A35 and Golf R with the chite crackle and pop thing going on.

Mental figures, but not so much differentiation to the C43 anymore (engine and drivetrain), which itself realistically is more than 'enough' in the real world!

My 78yr old dad has a W202 C43 AMG. The first V8 C Class

Even though he has had it a few years I still watch him drive off in it when they come to visit as I love the V8 rumble as he makes his way down the road

Fast forward 24yrs in the new C63 - I can’t imagine seeing one driving off silently or parping out fake noises would have the same appeal somehow!

The new one might be a technical masterpiece but it has lost its character

might as well buy a crazy fast EV, don't understand a fake sound track in an ICE car. Its like fake tits and lip filler, supposed to improve things but makes it worse.

It seems to offer none of the benefits of being electric, whilst also offering none of the benefits of having an ICE.

Be interesting to see what size fuel tank they manage to squeeze into it, if its only 50 litres that could be a bit of a pain for spirited driving!
^this. If you want this kind of machine, a mid-sized estate with oodles of power and a bit of cachet, you want a decent engine to bask in ICEland OR a hot EV motor to feel like you’ve moved your game on. I get hybrids in a more humdrum package (530e, for example) but as a full blooded performance car I’ve never seen the appeal of big numbers compromised by big weight.

Frankly, it sounded vaguely interesting until it mentioned a load of driving modes and then a look at the dash reveals an absolute bellend nerdfest of switchgear. Whatever happened to just driving a car instead of programming it with a load of nipple twisting fannying about?

Surely it's a C20 not a C63?...
Nomenclature hasn't meant a damn thing for a good while now

Audi A3 4.0 TDI anyone?
BMW 745i in the 70's which had a 3.3
Am I correct in saying C63 should have been C62 ..?

Bellends, nipples, and fannies? Well, the smaller AMG Mercs have interiors like a tart’s boudoir, so it’s on brand!
