Genuinely interested, In your opinion, what new car is fast, looks great and is £30k? The only other I can think of is an MX5 RF but that has less power and less practicality.it doesnt look great but not bad

I find myself very frustrated in many ways with the GT86/GR86. The GT86 was flawed and not quite as good overall as many of us were expecting. Then Toyota decided to do their best to improve it with the GR86...but you had to struggle like hell to actually buy one though. Annoying I reckon.
That aside...I'd definitely love one of these for sure.

Similar money I'd prefer the GR Yaris, cheapest GR86 is by chance were I live at Wakefield with 30 miles on it £35,500 lowest mileage at 16 is also near me at Harrogate at 36grand. Both for sale on Autotrader.
Obviously the Yaris will be very slightly older and more miles but what performance from that 3 pot , yes please if the GR96 was more obtainable it would be less that's another reason I'd definitely go Yaris.

Agree about the indicators, can't understand why Toyota/Subaru thought they were a good idea.
Other than that, love it to bits, and feel lucky to have secured one.
Thanks to Pistonheads I was an early bird order.
I think it needs the duckbill to finish it off.
And the car that started it all off, wish I'd kept hold of that one.

Never driven a Yaris but I suspect the 86 will be more fun more of the time.Obviously the Yaris will be very slightly older and more miles but what performance from that 3 pot , yes please if the GR96 was more obtainable it would be less that's another reason I'd definitely go Yaris.
It’s a temporary illusory situation while reality sets in. Such is the perceived demand that they have been bought by people who do not actually want them. Starting at 10k overs they have already dropped to 5k or thereabouts overs. Once it becomes clear that this situation has been engineered these cars will become realistically priced as there is likely enough for the people who want to own them rather than those who see them as speculative money makers.

It has the BMW style ones, which don't click and stay in position. Even when the indicators are fully enabled, the stalk always returns to centre.
It makes cancelling them a bit of a pain, because rather than just unlicking them, you have to push them in the opposite direction, which run's the risk of then activating them in the other direction.
It's not really a big issue - you get used them in within a few minutes. But it's just a bizarre design choice. They offer no practical advantage over a traditional indicator stalk that I can work out. An answer to a problem that doesn't exist.
Does it work the same as the BMW and Vauxhall ones, in that if you indicate to turn right, you can cancel by indicating to turn right again? Saves the embarrassment of driving down the road indicating left and right, and also means if you've just flicked for 3 flashes and try to cancel that, at worst you do another 3 flashes rather than indicating the other way. Totally normal for my brain now, with 2 cars in the family that do thisIt makes cancelling them a bit of a pain, because rather than just unlicking them, you have to push them in the opposite direction, which run's the risk of then activating them in the other direction.

Yeah for a new car but why spend 30k on that when you cant get a decent second hand M5 it seems out of whack to me but thats just my lame view
Totally different cars. I guess there are people who use an M5 as a weekend fun car, but in my view a super saloon serves a different purpose compared to a sports car - plenty of power, good soundtrack, tech, and comfortable. In terms of driver engagement and fun, you’re never really going to touch the sides driving on public roads. Even on track, there’s more fun to be had with something half the power with a stick. The gt86 is by some margin the most fun modern daily ive ever come across, would love to try the GR86, apart from the worse steering and worse looks every thing else should be nicer. But its quite a bit more money to fork up compared to my 86, which would mean no track driving. Ill hope they will depreciate a bit but that will be slow i guess, really slow.
I liked the poster above that said its fun at 1/10, 5/10 or 10/10, that's so very important, and why i like my old 86, fun all the time (except motorways maybe 🤣)

Page 3 before we got "you could buy some old BMW for that money" . Standards are slipping round here.
I think those who got one to enjoy (rather than flip) will be extremely happy with their choice. I know I am.
It's not unreasonable or unusual to compare buying alternatives to new cars. Car magazine journalists from.....Autocar, Autoexpress, etc, do have a habit also of suggesting used alternatives to a new car they've written an article on. Even the review by Savagegeese in a video link i posted earlier was comparing their S2000 to the GR86 in terms of driving experience and usability. Don't see a problem with having choices.
