I need to stop reading this thread.
As I’ve spotted a customers car on autotrader.
It’s immaculate and has a history file that’s reassuringly thick, down to every fuel receipt..
It’s also probably my ideal spec for a car.
I don’t need 2, 2.5 ton land rovers..

Why not? I run 2 Land Cruisers and they both work....As I’ve spotted a customers car on autotrader.

Great car. I never understood why BMW sold LR; dumping Rover yes but what a mistake they made then. I think they would be making 1.5 million LR's annually by now with a full modern range & huge profits.
Different times. SUVs weren't the thing they are now, they overpaid and didn't have the money to make it into what Ford started. Even Tata got lucky as they underpaid as Ford was a forced seller and then Chinese and subsequent global demand for luxury SUVs exploded. p1stonhead said:
And for a contrary view….
I just had this fixed and it cost me £500 odd.
Was leaking onto the exhaust so never saw any drips. But it was some sort of valve on the cooling system that had a mild seep.
Part was over £300 and took my local specialist about 2 hours to change as it was ‘an awkward bugger’ apparently and he had to remove a few other bits.
If anyone is interested I can dig out the part number but not necessarily likely to be the same thing.
Please do, but it's an uncommon cause. I just had this fixed and it cost me £500 odd.

Threads like this are no good. When I bought my Disco 4 it was a toss up between that and a Range Rover L322. I still think they look fantastic (even though my wife thinks they look like a taxi...) can someone please come on and say how awful theirs was so I don't feel so full of regret? Ta!
Happily ! I had an L322 and it was the most comfortable car I have ever owned. Immense driving position and effortless........it was also an unreliable stbox. Diff problems, electrical gremlins, air suspension issues, starting problems. It broke down on the motorway three times and almost cost me a client so I got rid. If you want one as a weekend toy not an issue but as a daily driver that would be brave.Friend of mine bought one recently and I warned him about reliability but he pulled the trigger - he has now got shot of it after months of issue after issue.
In fairness I know people who have had no problems - they seem to be either faultless or absolute pigs !!!!

Range Rovers (Land Rovers as a whole) are addictive. My rule has been to get a car from last year of the model when possible as most niggles have been fixed by then.
L322 4.4 TDV8 are great cars.
RRC 3.9 V8 - so much character and pretty cool.

If the coolant level is in fact fine despite the message, it’s probably the float in the coolant tank that’s getting stuck. They do this, apparently, as they age. You’ll need to replace the tank and refill. It’s not hugely expensive (some good news).
If OTOH, the coolant level has dropped, then playing “hunt the leak” can be cheap or expensive…
Nope, it genuinely is losing coolant - from normal level down to the bottom of the coolant tank in about a week. If OTOH, the coolant level has dropped, then playing “hunt the leak” can be cheap or expensive…
It’s already had the awkward little pipe down the back of the engine replaced, and a new auxiliary radiator last year. The only signs of seepage I can see are down near the bottom of the main radiator so it may well be that.
Anyway, it’s booked into my local LR specialist but they couldn’t fit it in until the 28th March as they’re “very busy”.
Anyone would have thought Land Rovers are unreliable or something…
The chap is looking £2800 for this.
This thread really hasn’t helped. What could possibly go wrong?

Sold mine to WBAC after spending 6 months scratching an L322 itch with a 2006 BMW/FoMoCo crossover 4.4 AJV8 petrol
Oh so expensive things to run (and plenty was left on the to-do), but what a rewarding experience!
Peak was taking it to Belgium for a week before Christmas. 3h30 to Dover in one sitting and felt great after.
Would potentially have another subject to a more robust buying process/standards, but not before I'm taking home another £500 or so a month!

Paid about £3k for mine. Put new tyres, filters and fluids in, flushed the gearbox and got the rear arches sorted. It owes me less than £6k in total - it’s done 177k miles and drives like new. Buy a well-used one in decent nick for cheap, budget to do the repairs it will need and enjoy. Nothing else I’ve driven does everything I need in actual transport as well.
