The seller should have listed it as POA...... after all it is very limited and highly sought after original example

Has to be one of the sttest cars in the classifieds, no? Lowered, painted callipers that don't go with the rest of the car, wrong grille, Barry badges, cheap aftermarket head unit and just about to tick over 100k. Who is going to spend eight grand on it?

Nothing wrong with Goodyears btw, had them on my Golf mk6 before it got PX'd and preferred them to the Contis they replaced. Much quieter and felt more supple and grippy.

The painted calipers match the stitching on the seats and gear gaiter as well as the Pirelli badges take a hard look next time

This car isn’t a good example but £8,000 is about average for an Edition 30 or Pirelli with ~ 100k miles. And 90% are rusty. They are popular with the kids as they tune so well. 360-380bhp is easily attainable with a few bolt on modifications.

Mate has just dropped his wheels off ready for a full resto. Back to original colour and a full new set of P Zeros.

The Pirelli wheels centres are still available, I bought a set for my recently refurbished wheels, set me back about £112 though but we'll worth it, its all in the detail.

Fully agree.. I had a almost mint E30 (same car different marketing) and it was very popular due to easy safe tuning as you mention. I never gelled with the car though and I don't tune my cars typically, especially when they are FWD. The rust was the killer for me. It started to show on every wing.

It was the first car I've ever owned with a factory corrosion warranty for 10 years. However when I took it to VW they would only agree to repairing one wing as they said the others had been repainted so they would not help.

It really put me off VW as a brand due to that experience. I also hated the stereo in the car and could not get comfy in the seats. It was a swift car, and great at covering distance quickly but I don't miss it.

The Mk5 Golf GTI looks best as a standard, small wheeled, basic car to my eyes.

I think the Pirelli looks terrible,

100% agree. I also love the black bare plastic bits on the regular GTi that everyone seems to moan about.

I imagine a lot of people feel the same about the brand in terms of the corrosion issues and the mk5 seems to be one of the worse for it. Not what you would expect from a supposedly premium hatchback.

Terrible example.
Been ragged around Cornwall maybe where seller is located.
Ramair induction probably a stage 1/2 car then lowered on crap springs or Coilovers. Loads of issues and badge on rear in wrong place and missing Pirelli Badge …respray?

Definitely needs £’s throwing at it …not a collectors example.

Love it mate! Looks fantastic!

I’m sure you smile every time you look at it.
I do love it, its a great little car to jump in and drive all over the country if needed. Looking after it is great and its not too expensive to run either. Loads of typical haters and nay sayers on here too, as always.
Great car. How many miles?

Had 3 Edition 30’s years ago. 2 manual one DSG.
Should have kept the first one bought from VW Leeds. It was number 30 and I had it featured in VW Driver.

Great turbo K04 compared to stock GTI like the Pirelli.

I did fiddle with a couple KW Clubsports, APR Stage 2 but kept it looking stoc. Great bit of kit.

My first GTi Mark 2 that I bought new on 1st August 1984 had the Pirelli wheels but it was standard on all the GTi's at that time, not just special editions.
Of course there are details on this example that aren't to the original spec, but it still looks nice.
Yeah I could imagine it when he renewed the tyres "Anything but Pirelli please, they're are so sheeple on this car"

I’m sorry to say it looks like an ugly blob. The Mk1 and 2 with their squared off origami styling were more attractive imho. The middle aged Golfs are starting to look worse with age and the later ones are just ‘a yawn a minute’ bland.
