I think BMW are hoping for a Geely buyout.

What were they smoking when they stood in the styling studio and signed off this design

I’m struggling to understand how this is £50k more than a BMW iX 50 - which offers similar performance and luxury. The iX M60 is still cheaper and is quicker and lighter aslo !
Somehow they're assuming there's a market for another large, expensive BMW badged SUV with questionable styling that the iX doesn't fill.

Seems optimistic. Maybe they think it's a big enough niche that one model cannibalising sales of the other won't matter?

I used to be an unashamed BMW apologist; I've staunchly defended Bangle-era BMs, love the i3/i8 design language and concept (so much so that I bought an i3) and really do like the new 3/4 series.

This, however, has made me an *ashamed* BMW apologist frown

Good to see BMW offering an exciting alternative to the blandness that has crept into car design, particularly EV's, over the last few years.

This compliments the newly released 7 Series very well and they will both play an important part in the continued success of BMW globally.

Ssangyong were proud to be the makers of the ugliest cars on sale in the UK, but no longer. BMW execs said "hold my beer..."

I've been a fan of cars, engineering and car design for as long as I can remember. I really really dislike where the industry is going. If this is the best the engineers can come up with its a sad state of affairs.

I know the whole point of building a car is to sell them and make a profit, but seriously, this is a seriously nasty vulgar thing, absolutely awful in every way.

How far BMW have fallen in their desire to indulge tts who have to buy SUV's to make themselves feel better.
The interior is almost as dire as the exterior. Amazing to have built a egobarge where looking under the bonnet is the only saving grace which is relative.
What a flatulent waste of resources.

They could have done so much better and made another M1.

Semi serious question:

Are they actually going to sell any at all?
Sadly, I think they will.

You only need to take a quick look at the roads to see that people with very poor taste abound, and some of those will spend ANY amount of money in order to give the appearance that they have so much money that they are able to spend it very unwisely indeed without it causing them any financial burden at all. Witness the number of new cars on the road which are not cars which anyone will want in ten years time, yet cost well over £150,000. These are the same people who wear orange fake tan, who wear fluffy slippers and leggings to the supermarket, and yet who also own £2000 Balenciaga trainers.

Generally the design language has moved in a direction that I don't like, the XM is absolutely awful but there are still some gems out there:

Lotus Emira
Cupra Formentor
Bentley Continental
Ferrari Roma
Mustang
Macan
Merc SL
New Maserati GrandTurismo

Would rather have a Citroen XM, by a margin. Using the change to try to clear all of the fault warnings on the dashboard.

Need to change the subtitle to M1 surely?
I had an XM years ago, a much nicer looking thing than this monstrosity. BMW Just Stoppit please.

Yep, dad had one and it was great. When it worked. Very comfortable. Leaving the handbrake off and it subsequently rolling down our not unsubstantial garden into the wall at the bottom didn't help.

A designer once said their car design was influenced by Brigitte Bardots shapely figure.

I think I have found where BMW are now getting their influences from.
