RE: Mirage Countach | The Brave Pill
Discussion
Needs to be lowered and those revolting side skirts removed. If there was an accurate original LP400 perioscopio then it would be tempting at that price if it was mechanically spot on since originals are around £1m. As it stands you would need a lobotomy to spend more than £30k on it.

Dogleg 1st or just a gate to look like it?
The gear shift pattern is a concern...Cars of this sort with a Yank V8 would use the Porsche G50 transaxle, which IIRC is a standard H-pattern for 1-5, and reverse is left and forward, next to 1st.
This shift pattern is the same as the Renault UN1 transaxle, which I remember seeing paired with Rover V8s, but cannot cope with a tuned RV8 or a Yank V8s torque. The only benefit of the UN1 was it was cheaper, I think it also necessitated higher engine placement.
So, this gearbox may be over it's torque capacity.

IIRC there's some remedial work required when flipping a G50 to use mid-engined, which a UN1 wouldn't.Cars of this sort with a Yank V8 would use the Porsche G50 transaxle, which IIRC is a standard H-pattern for 1-5, and reverse is left and forward, next to 1st.

I've seen a couple of different approaches to people building longitudinal mid engined setups (outside of spending the hefty money for a purpose designed box).
I believe the Subaru 5 speed can be converted to 2wd, but I don't think the stronger 6 speed can, and they cost a fair amount anyway.
If it were me, think I'd probably see if an Audi gearbox could work, as they're relatively cheap and pretty tough.
But anyway, I think this replica doesn't look too awful, though I wouldn't spend £70k on it, even if it is a far cry from some of the awful lashups I've seen.
So put me in the "I'd buy a real something else" camp I guess.

It's not a terrible replica as replicas go, but really what"s the point?
I can imagine buying a really good rep of a 250GT California because it is such a beautiful shape and there is not a cat in hells chance of being able to afford a real one or even one of GTOs toolroom copies. I think of it as a 1:1 scale model!
I don’t think I’ve met anyone who would want this type of vehicle.
With a price point of around 10-15k, then it may appeal to a financially embarrassed poseur, but when you can buy a real Lambo for the sticker price, it’s utterly pointless.
Just another thing, with Lamborghini being a highly sort-after brand, what happens when they get all litigious like Mercedes and Jaguar have done, and start enforcing intellectual copyright?

Wheelbase looks wrong, and something around the front wheel too. £70k? HAHAHAHHAHAHA not in a million years, what a rip off.
I clicked to this read because I saw something was wrong: and I am not the only one to see it.Also > RE: But it will obviously sound wrong, and its mass distribution will give different handling characteristics, although it will probably feel more agile.
The original 5000S is a gem at high speeds. It does not feel like a 1500 kgs car at all. You will need some serious speed to allow your shoulders some movement of the wheel though. And that's the sheer beauty of 70s and 80s supercars in a nutshell
I've never understood these things either. A cheap mid-engined car with a Chevrolet small block is a great idea. A replica Lamborghini is irredeemably naff. Surely it would have been better all round to fit a generic mid-engined wedgy body, make up a name and sell the thing as a car in its own right? Any spurious connections with Lamborghini would have been avoided and the kit could have stood on its own two feet without the taint of being a replica.
