Different cams, pistons and rods for just a 30bhp increase...you got to wonder.
Epic exhaust sound matched by an epic asking price and totally unsuited for a Limo. Makes no sense at all.
Quite agree. It's not as though the 6.0 V12 was coming out of a coma let alone under any stress with that specific output.Epic exhaust sound matched by an epic asking price and totally unsuited for a Limo. Makes no sense at all.
For those whinging about the price for an AMG, let me refer you to this record result a few weeks ago.
https://www.broadarrowauctions.com/vehicles/am23_0...
New record for an AMG of the pre-2000 era.
Not an anomaly either, as there was another for a similar price 20 lots before.

That racket coming from an S Class is all a bit, well, uncouth isn't it?
If I wanted a breathed over W140, I'd go for an AMG 7.0 V12 with over 500bhp like this looking as standard as possible.

This has got to be pretty close to the top of the pile on that front....

Oof - that's lovely. Lwb I would guess but what engine out of interest? My dad had a humble 280SE a long time ago.
So, retro cars with huge front grills are okay, but new cars with similar size grills are the design of idiots Dapster said:

Imagine trying to find all those functions on an ipad

Which is exactly why it's wonderful.Looking at the prices early AMGs have been making recently and I'm not at all surprised by that number.
If I'm honest I guessed 40 odd, but it's rare, there are collectors around, it's eligible for US export...

40k from 55, 25+% reduction...
I wonder how the car would fair price wise in the U.S., presuming the USP exhaust system is Cat delete and presumingly again the hydraulic suspension (SLS) had been deleted in favour of what the seller calls 'coil overs'.
Both possibly mute points as this car seems to be marked for sale in U.K. and think any comments made about the price was based on that.
One thing to my mind, if the car was totally original, as left the AMG agent in Japan I reckon it would would have greater saleability, the epic sounding exhaust system and the aftermarket suspension have done it no favours imo.
And let's be honest what are you getting for the AMG input...30 bhp on to top of 400 bhp, some exterior trim and a few trinkets, I'm unsure but that's all I can make out from the advert.
The bottom line for me is the seller is chancing his arm and knows it too, supported by a nice sales promotion courtesy of PH.

Holy cow, you could still hear that into the middle of next week - and then he found a tunnel! It sounded way more F1 than I thought it would.

I thought the article was somewhat hyperbolic but it does indeed sound very F1.

For anyone else who wanted to hear the thing there's a video floating around the internets..

I've loved this car since I first saw that vid. https://fb.watch/jp7f8oBxyW/
Judging by the tone of other comments, I'm a foolish young-un - almost 45! I recall my old man wasn't impressed when I excitedly showed it to him a while back either.
Now I know its for sale I need to work out how to get my hands on it!
Also an ideal candidate for my recurring daydream of 'cool LHD cars to go to Le Mans in'.
It's ridiculous and I love it for that. I don't care what the price is as I'm not in the market. I enjoy that it exists and someone has done it. The world is a better place for things like this.
I have heard and seen it before, as I am a Mercedes fan, but that sound is just phenomenal.
This is my 41 year old W126 500 SEL, I have had the exhaust customised so that the 5.0 V8 sounds pretty brutal, but for a few hundred pounds, not $12,000 :-)

I like buttons, but that many would drive me nuts lol, although for me easier then modern computer-ish cars with all their menu's.one of the nicest classic consoles I think are those from the BMW 3.0 csi E9 likes, not a perfect example but nice and clean
What a car and that M120 is a benchmark engine. Back in the early 90s, that engine was developing over 400 BHP at a time where some hyper cars were just managing those figures.
I have a 1992 model 600 SEL, but needs some fettling and TLC to get back on the road. These really are crying out for a 5 speed gearbox as they rev a little high when in 4th. The V12 sings and has its own character.
I do love the sound of this one in the article, and it would be a great thing to hook every now and then. But, like others have said, it would get annoying when you just wanted to waft along quietly in double glazed comfort. Perhaps if they could do a switchable exhaust like on some omen cars, that could appeal more.

Article says it is switchable. Assume the clips are all with it fully open.I have a 1992 model 600 SEL, but needs some fettling and TLC to get back on the road. These really are crying out for a 5 speed gearbox as they rev a little high when in 4th. The V12 sings and has its own character.
