I'm getting extremely bored with new cars that start north of £60k!! Perhaps invest in producing a smaller cheaper alternative. You know the sort of thing, £25k, 200 mile range, 8s to 60, 100mph top end. The sort of thing that the average person on an average wage can afford to buy without committing to 5 years at some extortionate interest rate PCP. Bring Back the good old days. Motoring for the masses, not just for the very, very rich.
That’s the same as complaining Ferrari don’t make a car costing £80k.

Car makers target different audiences.

Get onto the low end Chinese and Dacia makers for the low end £25 EV’s

I really like the Polestar 2 and what Polestar generally try to do. It's hard not to get cynical about this, though.

"Shall we knock up another special edition, lads?"
"Sure. What shall we call this one?"
"Dunno. How many cars can we paint with that batch of funny green paint we've got knocking around?"
"You mean the one Brian got the paint mix wrong for?"
"Yeah. Looks pretty nice though."
"Hang on, I'll have a look. (Clattering of keys on laptop.) Two hundred, and, er, thirty, I reckon."
"Great. Edition 230 it is. You email the marketing team to tell them while I get some coffee and doughnuts for the team."
"Do you reckon the customers will get fed up of it?"
"Nah, they're still selling well and we've got some Gen 1 cars to get rid of before people want to trade them in for Polestar 3s next year. Can you tell Brian there's a doughnut in it for him if he mucks around on the paint mix control panel again and see if he can come up with some other new not-quite-grey colour?"
"Sure."

Sounds like the colour is actually Volvo Sage Green which I believe is a C40/XC40 colour, so there’s so exclusivity there. It’s a lot lighter than the images here would lead you to believe.

You'll be wanting an MG then, or waiting for the VW ID2all, though i doubt that will actually start at the £25k they say it will

Really don’t see the point on the performance model EVs, they’re not suited to track work and are often compromised on the road.

I do like the P2 as an everyday EV, but the driver ergonomics need sorting out.

I completely agree. I have the standard range, single motor PS2 and I really do think it's the sweet spot in the range. The real world range isn't much less than the long range car (£4000 more for 30 miles more range), and the performance is perfectly adequate in normal driving, and let's face it, that's what these cars are for. The responsiveness of the EV drivetrain makes it a fun point and squirt car, and it never feels slow, but crucially the weight means they're just not that fun to throw down a road. The PP car was the one I test drove, and it almost put me off, but instead I got a standard car with Plus pack, and a 987 Boxster.

What was your problem here btw? It's not something I've ever seen mentioned on the owners forums etc.

Completely agree. Frustratingly there is a market for it which is seemingly here for the foreseeable future. The rich can give more to the poor, but prefer to indulge. Greed gets the better of them.

What are you on about? There has always been a market for £60k+ cars. Are you suggesting that instead of buying a Polestar I should have given money to the poor, on top of the vast amounts I already pay in taxes?

I imagine most of your possessions come from China, or contain majority of parts made in China - are you giving those up too?

Slightly different to spending £70k + on a single item though. Yes, other manufacturers use parts from there etc but there will be less direct funding buying something else.

I guess it's up to the individual to set their own level of hypocrisy.

rolleyes

You two can "imagine" that if you like if it makes you feel better but I seriously doubt it's true. Certainly not by value. Start by categorising products into Chinese brands made in China, Western/non Chinese brands made in China, Western brands made in the west with some embedded Chinese value. The latter is very hard if not impossible to avoid, the middle takes some effort to avoid but is possible, the first is extremely easy to avoid. We're talking about the first here; it's very easy to avoid buying Chinese cars made in China. As for my hypocrisy I make considerable effort to avoid the second category as well but sadly the last category is in practice impossible to avoid. Ignoring funding the CCP at the expense of our and our allies own manufacturing base and employees I've found many Chinese products of the former category from industrial air conditioning units to machine tools and consumer goods very much a false economy. The cheap upfront cost invariably more than offset by a shorter lifespan.

Anyway you're right, it's up to the individual to choose what they buy although I'd suggest it's easier for you to display your support for genocidal, expansionist dictators by simply daubing a Z on the side of your car rather than forking out 70k for one.
