These things are everywhere in the US. Admittedly the lesser powered versions but still, they're a dime a dozen. Usually driven by kids.
Awful thing. Just crap. Remodeled versions of a classic car probably go quite well with the mock Tudor houses of certain Californian suburbs.
Built to a price. What is impressive is how long Dodge have kept the model going for so long! Its essentially the same model from 2008 and to be fair, they have done a good job in gentle updates over that time. However, its still built to a particular price point. They do drive ok, but its not something that you would necessarily want to grab the keys for when you go for a canyon drive. But hey, I get it.Awful thing. Just crap. In general the V8s are pretty quick and there is a multitude of models and engine spec's before you get to the Hellcat models. However, Dodge has not really addressed the theft rates for them over the years. Challenger and Chargers regularly top the charts in the 'most stolen' categories across major metro areas in the US. As much as Dodge have tried to use the Hellcat engine models as 'halo models', cheap finance and minimum insurance packages mean that they are falling into the wrong hands very quickly - either bought by people who cant afford them (frequently repossessed) or stolen.

Relative to what? In what way? Because it is a big seller in the States? Because the styling is retro? I get that a muscle car isn't everyone's cup of tea, but to dismiss it like that seems a bit closed-minded, to put it politely. I would happily have any version (as long as it had 8 cylinders).Arsecati said:

So 0-60 in 1.6 seconds. That means it's the fastest acceleration production car in the world.

Nope, Dodge are quoting this figure using the 'drag standard one foot runoff', or whatever stupid thing they call it, it's not measured in the same way. It's still b@st@rd quick (though the road legality of those tyres also has to be called in to question), but you'd be looking at around the 2 second mark minimum if using same parameters.Beating all of this lot: https://blog.dupontregistry.com/features/633151/fa...
Oh, and the Rimac Nevera is actually quicker than the lot.

Shame that by the time you get it on the road here it will be £150K+ thanks to the taxes on taxes on taxes you have to pay t get US stuff over here
US buyers never get cars for the low figures quoted in publications. They end up paying all sorts of local taxes and dealer margins. It's akin to things in the UK being quoted without VAT.

Amusing that next to an article on how it has taken Lamourghini 3 motors and umpteen drive modes to harness 1015 BHP at cost of who knows how many £,000's is one about an American car generating 1025 bhp for under $100,000....
And I would rather have the Lamboghini every day of the week over this Yank thing.Mark_Blanchard said:

I can't see it being that quick, the McMurtry does it in almost the same time with 1000hp, 1000kg and the most insane amount of downforce from a standstill (0-100mph in 2.7 seconds!) Beating all of this lot: https://blog.dupontregistry.com/features/633151/fa...

from what I remember the last demon became a bit of a joke, it couldn't get any traction whatsoever and there's videos of them being outdragged by amg's and such
hope this one is better!
Yep i was gonna say the same I remember grand tour and some other vids I dont think I saw it win a drag race. Dont get me wrong its nuts, and fair play to an OEM doing it. The 'rimac for sensitive areas with gel strip' will smash it off the line and do it over and over again, but this thing feckin wheelies and will sound and smell epic...hope this one is better!

Getting a car to make 1000bhp isn't that difficult: getting it to stop or go around corners is another matter.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
