Blaze Yellow Phase 3 isn’t it ?

Will come up nice with a polish

Although I’m sure the strips on the side and bottom of the boot weren’t on phase 3’s.

It's a phase 2 with crystal headlights. Not a vast difference between them and they tended to be a bit random with trim anyway.
No and no.

It's a phase 2.5 or parts bin special. Round fogs and crystals form the phase 3 front end, phase 2 tailgate and wiper arm at the back.
Mine was a '2.5' as well with some bits from a Phase 2 and some of the Phase 3 bits. it was fairly common for a couple of months during production using up the Ph. 2 parts
The Phase 2.5 cars gradually changed spec as they were built so can be quite different. Mine was one of the last of the phase 2.5 cars in Blaze Yellow, but had the smooth bootlid, Leather and alcantara seats, fully painted skirts and door badges like a phase 3. Blaze Yellow wasn't offerered on the phase 3 cars if I remember correct.

We've had RWD Escorts, 205GTis, a few Scoobs and a trio of 306s over the years. Still have an Escort and a 205.

306-wise I had a Diablo Red D-Turbo for a few years back in the 90's. That was a great daily, and very chuckable even if the oil burner made it a bit front heavy. Looked (and gripped) even better when I replaced the standard 14" alloys with some 15's from an S16.

A decade or so later, in the late 00s we got the missus an XSi (R-reg 2.0 in Blaze) which was a really good all-rounder, sure not the quickest, but was pleasant to drive and would press on if you wanted to.

Unfortunately that one succumbed to a hydrauilced engine when the missus took it boating down a flooded lane. To be fair she was used to 205s with higher air intakes (why was the 306 one so low?!). Thought we'd got away it after to removing the plugs and emptying the water but a few months later it picked up a vibration and the swiftly threw a rod, reckon it must have spun a bearing. Sad about that as it was a really mint car.

Managed to find a clean GTi-6 (also in Blaze) being sold as a p/x clearance with it's air-bag light on (common issue and easy fix on these - check the plugs under the seats - loom is too short so they are always strained).

Whilst it was a fun car I personally felt it lacked the raw edge of the 205, whilst at the same time it felt a bit harsh on long journeys compared to the XSi. The steering lock (or lack of) was a pain in the bum. especially when trying to negotiate mini-roundabouts. Did go well though smile.

Lacquer started going on the roof and her-indoors wanted something newer so we eventually sold it to a chap who flew planes.. think he was on here (say hi if you've still got it (S***NJB)). Would like to have kept it but sadly lack of time and space meant it needed to be moved on.

Personally, I think the 90's was the last golden era for cars, nothing built since compares to the stuff we had back then in terms of driving enjoyment. Probably why my daily is of '99 vintage.

GTi6 never came with the squared off phase 2 fogs, but only round ones (crystal lens are the phase 3 bit). Anyway loads of phase 2 cars were updated to 3 back in the mid 2000s, like my S reg Rallye which came with a phase 3 rear end, but phase 2 rear end. About an hour to change it all over and it does look better. I've only had 12 of the bloody things, but hey...

My current 6 is full late-spec phase 3 china (isofix, side airbags etc), hopefully back on the road in the next couple of months. Just saved it from tipping over into catastrophic rust.
