It's because it's too wide.
The proportions are just wrong.
Makes you realise how accurate and detailed designers really need to be to get it right (and how these guys haven't).
Yup, there's real skill in getting a car to look right and afraid this one is a miss. Would be good to see in on more suitable wheels, though. That would help a lot.The proportions are just wrong.

I am sure it will be amazing to driver but WTAF are those wheels???
Surely they can find a way to replicate something that comes closer to the classic, deep-lipped Borranis?
The ones in the photo look like the version Hot Wheels would put on their toy cars thinking "that's close enough"...

That only happens when their badge is also used.
Personally I think it looks ok. Suspect its one of those cars that looks better in the flesh than in photos.
I saw a prototype at Bicester Heritage last year, and it's just like in the photos. I'm sure it's a superb work of engineering, but in terms of looks and presence it's like the David Brown Speedback thing - just too bland. Personally I think it looks ok. Suspect its one of those cars that looks better in the flesh than in photos.
Was hoping to really like this, but the wheels are all kinds of wrong.
Why anyone with the means would choose this modern creation, when this already exists, is beyond me

Yup. That GTO Engineering car is fabulous. A perfectly set up Colombo V12 and a traditional interior. It's a wonderful thing. Why anyone with the means would choose this modern creation, when this already exists, is beyond me

Well, the GTO Engineering car is wonderful, but the reason to with the RML car would obviously be usability, practicality, reliability etc. It's a modern pretty comfy car, while the GTO car is a full on classic, albeit some of the rougher edges buffed out. The RML is modern fuel injection and will start on the button every time, relatively large cabin space, usable in all weathers and so on. It's a car you'd could use quite a bit for a pretty wide remit. The GTO car is more of a holidays and high days car.
It's horses for courses. A wouldn't want the RML thing at all. If I wanted something that usable, there would be lots of other stuff I'd far prefer. But as much as the GTO engineering car is wonderful, in practice it doesn't actually appeal all that much. I mean, if you hadn't driven it for months, would it just start and run perfectly on the carbs etc? Would it be a ballache? Would you need staff to prep it before you used it each time etc?
That's the thing. Would you want to do a nice Euro tour in the GTO car? I doubt it on reliability, comfort and other concerns. There are videos of it on youtube that make is seem very loud inside, which is fine for a weekend blast, less so for proper touring. Which isn't to say I'd want a limo. A modern 911 GT3 would be just fine for me in comfort and usability terms.
Anyway, the GTO car is wonderful, but I feel limited bandwidth. The RML car I wouldn't fancy, the proportions are off for me. But can certainly see why someone would if they liked the look.
Well put GTB
I think if my numbers came up I’d be tempted by classics but not sure if I’d want the faff.
My lottery garage might end up full of cars like this RML, an Alfaholics GTA, that restomod Dutch Integrale, a Singer, an Eagle and that P1800 thing.
Ok maybe a real Miura, parked in the man cave just to look at

GTO Engineering were using fuel injection and it does have a few different engine capacities. I am sure they will be far more reliable than the genuine thing. The RML car I want to like, but the proportions issue exists, you have taken two vehicles of different generations and mashed them up, it simply looks off in every single way.
I also don't think a 550 should have to die either, if you make something genuinely brilliant looking with great engineering bravo go ahead. It is sort of like Touring taking Alfa 8Cs and giving them new clothing, they delivered something genuinely brilliant.

Ah, OK. I suspect still not hugely useable, but perhaps you could rely on it starting! The GTO car does still strike me as a very occasional toy rather than a real, usable car, but maybe that's unfair. The RML car seems like it'll be pretty usable, but looks totally off. Take your pick!
I actually like the Smit Oletha, if we're talking front-engine vaguely resto mods, and they're apparently now offering it with a straight six as well as the original V8 format.
