RE: 2023 Jaguar F-Type R 75 | PH Review
Discussion
Gorgeous things. Mind you I love Jags - had an S Type R, XF SV8 and an 07 XKR (which thus far has been my favourite car I’ve ever had). A mate has a pre facelift s/c V6 convertible and with the roof down it looks fabulous, goes well and sounds epic too when the revs build. I’d have this 75 in a heartbeat. Just a hundred grand short at the minute.
These cars after a few years of depreciation make for a much better purchasing decision.
Porsches are good, the benchmark for Journos, but back in the real world emotions and visceral feelings play a much bigger part in the purchasing of a car. I have a P450 and look back everytime I park the car in admiration of its beauty.

These seem to be better built than the other JLR products. Or maybe cus they make so few of them they try and make them properly?
My son's 4 year old V6 with around 40k has been with dealer since Jan 31st, needs new cam chains and cats, getting the parts has been horrendous, communication from the dealer has also been very poor, had to get Jaguar UK involved to try sort it out, luckily it's under warranty but a car that age/mileage should not need these things IMHO. I have always fancied an F Type as I have hired a few over the years but his experience has really put me off. ChrisCh86 said:

I've always had a real soft spot for these. Such a lovely looking thing(although I prefer the pre facelift headlights). That engine!
This. A lovely car overall, with a fantastic engine with the early V6 or V8 options. Shame about the facelift though - it looked better beforehand.I'd still love to have one - this has a lot more character than the 911 (992), even if it isn't technically as good.

That looks the dogs, bet it sounds nuts, old school muscle.I do love it though, it still puts a smile on my face after all these years driving it and biased though I obviously am I love the way it looks and sounds in the upper rev ranges.

Have a feeling that we will look back more fondly at the F-Type than any 992/Boxster/Cayman in the years to come. Despite its inherent flaws it has bags more character. A genuine modern day E-Type with those looks, less so the facelift mind.
This is spot on…. A car that I will come to love in time…. and it’s negatives will no longer matter, all that will be left is a compact, Jaguar V8 coupe that has bags of character and looks great… And will remind me of the blood and thunder of a previous time… Still with all the creature comforts…Oh my… I think I’ve just talked myself into one to put away!!!
Doesn't it just? A gorgeous car. I'm normally not a fan of black, yet I'm still drooling.
That's the thing about this car, and the thing that I question the ability of Porsche to deliver; the emotional aspect. The looks, the sound. These two things can be soul-stirring. I had an Alfa GTV V6. A Boxster would run rings round it, but it had all the soul of a Ford Escort compared to the Alfa. The choice (I drove both) was easy in the end.
That emotional thing. Some get it. Some don't. Both are fine - but I'm in the emotion camp every time. That's why I drive a Brera ;-)

£102k wow!!
I’ve always loved the rear end of these… but not at these prices
Well, a Porsche 992 Carrera 4 with similar colour (met.red), leather, seats and hifi, is £103.6k. However, that car has 385hp; the Jag has 575hp. So when you mean "these prices", why are you singling out Jaguar for a price that seems quite reasonable compared to an alternative? I’ve always loved the rear end of these… but not at these prices

It is a very good system!
But it is flawed (or was) by the need to reflect what are often the opinions of those above who allow a view to become default. So the classic mistake was to put a load of factors into the system, put in a competitors and say 'look, we are x% better so are good value in comparison because we are the best car company in the world and everyone wants our cars.' Now no one wants to contradict the boss and tell them the brand is lost and the styling lousy or reputation poor, so the pricing is put in place based on criteria but fail to take enough account of brand, reputation, the human side to car purchasing. You could put a factor in the system, but it required you to explain your decision to the higher ups!
Put simply, only the very smallest group of consumers know enough to sit down with two brochures and complete their own version of the JATO analysis to show the conclusion that the analytics system reaches, so instead we react irrationally, acting as much with our hearts as with our heads.
So yes the Jag is good value against the Porsche, but rightly or wrongly would not most people take the Porsche?
It’s all about perception.
My perception is that the Jaguar product is inferior in quality to some other products i could buy for similar or less money - thus in my opinion the price asked is too much (i dont give a damn about bhp - couldn't tell you what the bhp is of any of my cars!)
In my little world my perception is my reality - as i am sure is the case for everyone else - doesn’t mean anyone has to agree with me.
