What is a ‘Typical BMW Driver’ then.

I’ve just turned 50 and bought my first BMW at age 20. In the last 30 years, for 21 of them I’ve had BMW’s. I must be a ‘Typical BMW Driver’ then.

I’ve bought them because they drive fantastically and have a great quality and image.

What is in your opinion a Typical BMW Driver.
Funny-I owned one and sold it as it was dull as ditchwater and they tended to be driven by bellends where I live. Each to his own ;-)

Bubble cars "Drove it up to a wall and couldn't get out"

The Heinkel and Isetta both had reverse gears.

While the Messerschmitt didn't, it didn't have a forward opening door.

Is that: monkey leg end

Anyone who identifies as a leg end surely must be a troll also!

I just happened to be half way through a particularly stubborn bowl movement when I signed up. Unfortunately there's a particularly sensitive contingent who are either devoid of any humour or hell bent on depleting forum content. Either way, you can't be too careful. Good luck.

Disclaimer: no trolling intended or implied. Apologies if my sense of humour offends.
My son gave came up with the name so definitely leg end.

I am intrigued to hear more about this bowl movement, was that from the cupboard under the sink into the sink for washing up or something different?
It's panning for gold for the free baking powder powered submarine in the cereal. Before you poured the milk in, obviously.

Even More Off Topic - have I remembered that correctly? The toy used to be in the cereal, not separate? Either way, I could never get the submarine to work.
It was rice Krispies. The submarine worked perfectly and was an awesome sight to behold.

Bizarrely, some Isettas had 'blanked off' reverse gears, some didn't as far as I can remember? Something to do with licence or taxation class perhaps? Heinkel always had a reverse.

I believe they could be driven on a motorbike licence if the reverse was blanked.

I'm not sure the reason. Reliants could be driven on motorcycle licence but had reverse gears.

Maybe they were blanked off because they broke but according to Wikipedia, both the Isetta and Heinkel had reverse gears and were the only two relevant ones as they were the only two with forward opening doors.
The Henkel had its capacity reduced to under 200cc "for insurance purposes" but not sure if there was any connection.

They could both be bought with reverse, Heinkels always had reverse, but some Isettas had them blanked off. I will caveat I am no expert but its sticking in my head, must have read it somewhere over the years...which, again, doesn't make it true!!

When I mention I have a Citroen 2CV, the responses usually include the following (roughly in descending order of likelihood):

- Did you know they were built to carry eggs over a ploughed field without breaking them?
- Deathtrap/other reference to lack of crash safety
- Asking what it's worth + shock/surprise at the answer
- I had one of those as a student - I loved/hated it [delete as appropriate]
- My art teacher at school had one - I had a massive crush on/hated them [deleted as appropriate]
- My ditzy art-student girlfriend at university had one [plus suggestive references to bouncy suspension]
- Weird dash-mounted gearchange
- Anecdote about buying/renting one for youthful japes in sunny part of Europe in the 1970s/1980s
- Something about removable seats
- Something about rust

Our Messerschmitt has reverse. You stop the engine, then turn the ignition key in the opposite direction to start the engine running in the opposite direction. Then select the gear as normal, but now the car goes backwards.

You forgot the one about the roof line allowing the driver to wear a hat and cornering on its door handles.

Both true, but not the first things people mention about them by my experience.

When I had an Austin Metro the response was basically always just some variation on "You're brave/They're deathtraps, mate/Better not get in a crash, eh?" which I have never experienced with any other car. The 2CV and the Mini both get occasional mentions about their (lack of) safety but with the Metro it was utterly uniform and consistent.

Can’t be bothered reading 14 pages but obviously

Reliant robin: alright Del Boy ( but of course he didn’t drive that: wasn’t it a regal van or something

Original Vw beetle: I had loads. Usually something like : made by hitler and do you know you can put a Porsche engine in that.

Original Vw split/ bay. Drive it backwards in snow and you can go up anything due to the engine in the back.
