2 stroke engines for the public - should we ban them?
Discussion
California is trying to ban small engined gas powered stuff in 2024:

Of course, this gets spun in a whole number of different ways and you can only imagine what the social media posts say. Of course, its much more nuanced than what the political sides say and there is no real evidence that its going to be enforceable anyway. Its effectively banning the sale of categorized engines, but doesnt mean you cant use existing ones. It also doesnt provide provisions to stop cross border travel either - zip over to Nevada, buy what you want and then drive back.
Its a pretty stupid policy in reality.
If you have spent any time in California (or many places in the US), you will know that gas powered small devices are very popular. Mowers, blowers, shredders blah blah. In fact, if you live in the 'burbs, its often that you will find cities will pass local laws to limit the noise from them due to the disruption that they can cause. I can hear someone running something now and even with the damn windows and doors closed, I can hear the constant noise! But hey, back to the point - any ban, or attempt to ban, is stupid and mostly unenforceable. Political posturing and unlikely to actually pass. As others have commented, its largely irrelevant anyway and there are other polluters to focus on first.

crikey, the 2 stroke keyboard warriors are legion! wonder if those who've been lovely enough to tell me to fk off would do it face to face?
.
Actually, I told you to naff off, and if you want to pop round, I’d happily do it to your face..
And then I’d chase you off with my 2-stroke strimmer!
Heck, I’d even make you a nice cup of tea while you waited for me to get the damn thing started…

so to be clear, TVRs should be cherished for ever. that's why i joined PH when it was mostly green fields.
and for 'ban', perhaps 'phased out' is a more gentle phrase as ban has clearly caused an extreme reaction for some.
as being called 'smug' (there's a lot of name calling going on), i feel it's just eyes open. if the powers that be are going to ban ICE, they sure as st are going to go after domestic power/ garden tools that use petrol.
the fact i'm irritated by users of 2 strokers on a weekly basis gives me a bias on the subject. it's a forum.

Lets have less random Govt meddling and 'being seen to do something' please.
aka, fk off out my life as much as possible and focus on improving things that matter instead of tinkering on ste.

If you're intent on banning things, ban foreign holidays and flying to far away places.
Less aviation fuel pollution and folk should spend their money in the UK rather than foreign lands thereby improving the economy.

the reason for my comments is experience of living in the peak district, which is absolutely inundated with dirt bikes at the weekends.
nothing spoils a nice walk in the hills like the stink of 2 stroke hanging in the air as a line of dirt bikes go past, accompanied by the irritating noise they make. don't get me wrong, i get exploring on dirt bikes, but just think there could be a better way of propelling them
then you get someone who has got hold of a felled tree hacking it up with a chainsaw all day. serenaded by a 2 stroke engine. lovely..

If they are riding illegally, then you should take your anger out on your local councillors , to enforce the restrictions.

Too many righteous people preaching about the environment. The same people have a pet, buy things that were made in China transported on a tanker burning HFO, with a gas boiler on full chat in winter and munch through crisp packets that go to landfill.

in what way 966?
In the way that riding off road is perfectly legal. Stop your whining, you’re no more entitled to your enjoyment of the outdoors than anyone else. As for moaning about chainsaws, how awful for you that people want to maintain their properties! Small, petty minded individuals like you are just annoying.
