VED = Road Tax going up
Discussion
it does seem to annoy people massively
£0 road tax on our tip/dog car 1.6 diesel astra but my 5 series diesel is still £500 a year????
so basically taxed not on emissions, not on use of the road but purely on buying a nice car over a certain value new and will then drop to £165 a year once the government deem i have been punished enough for being able to afford a nice car.
whole system is a broken mess and should just be built into fuel costs

Ironically I will end up doing more environmental damage doing more miles to get more of my money’s worth .what a daft system is all I can say , I always though cars should pay by annual mileage or the time owned .i would be interested to know what dvla would say in response probably something along lines of computer says no

Plus, it's still a bargain! If anybody here has driven on motorways in France they'll appreciate what good value our RFL is. (Although the French peages do tend to be better, but not £££££ better)
smoking , we haven't got any roads equivalent to the French motorways though...SarlechS said:
yep both £630 cars are now up at just under £700 now.
Fun times - Last years hike was £15, so 2-3%, this years hike was nearly £70!!
Three cars and three bikes here - tax is the kicker nowadays and costs quite a bit more than insurance. In fact the tax on my car alone costs more than the insurance on all three. Fun times - Last years hike was £15, so 2-3%, this years hike was nearly £70!!

So today’s rant I Went to pay for 6 months of road tax for the 1.6 petrol Mk4 golf
It use to be just under 150 not so long ago now it states £178.25 which is more than the invoiced amount .it seems to just randomly increase each time
Considering I only use the car for short local runs its just like a massive rip off and might just sell the car now .its frustrating as it’s been a good reliable car but also an endless money pit of fees
Anyone else noticed price hikes
Yes, I noticed the increases, way back in the 2021 Finance Act. Best to pay attention at Budget time.It use to be just under 150 not so long ago now it states £178.25 which is more than the invoiced amount .it seems to just randomly increase each time

Absolutely not! They'd set the breakeven mileage at about 2,000 and it would doubtless vary with oil prices and at least now the price is visible! Plus...why should the leccy crew get off free! Pork Sausage said:
Just purchased VED from April 1st at current rate...
Worked for me too this morning. £35 saving on the L band Disco. Do you always get the option to ‘tax forward’ in the last day or so of the month or is it a weird combination of a bank holiday / weekend / day before VED rate rise day?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
