Hi James Rose and Rich ,

I loved my prototype Brooke 260RR so thank you James for designing and building it .

Thank you Rich for resurrecting it after the tenureship of its previous owner .

I loved my ( then all red ) Brooke for so many reasons - its prototype provenance , its uniqueness (albeit 1 of 12 ) , its design , its impracticality , its openess , its amazing acceleration and its even more amazing braking .

Its light weight was eye-opening -- you simply cannot get that sort of acceleration and braking and agility with a heavy car - however much power and torque you throw at it .

I had the prototype for about 10 years and only sold it to get a V12 monster -simple physics mean they drive very dfferently .
I used the car quite a lot , mainly on the continent .
The very first trip abroad I drove it from Cherbough down to the Spanish border in one hit and can confirm that those pull-out headlights work perfectly well deep into the night .

The car was almost immaculate despite all its use when i sold it .

I missed the extreme open air motoring of the Brooke and got a KTM X-BOW R to try and find the same thrills .
The X-BOW is a much more mature machine - which is to be expected .
It is also 300Kg heavier and you can feel this additional mass .

I told James and Jamie that I wanted to write a book on their baby but never did - i did however write the world's first book on the KTM X-BOW and there is a picture of the red prototype Brooke in that book .

I can still recall all the exciting moments I had with that 260RR so i hope that you Rich will be able to recapture the same experiences once you have refurbished it .

These Brookes are special cars

Apparently that’s a very good one with money spent at the right places.

The current bid is an absolute steal, someone could get this car at almost half its true value. Just four days to go.

In fairness most of the bids arrive in the last few hours.

Made circa £16,500 including buyers fee… that’s a whole lot of fun for that money and a bit of a hit for the previous owner.

wow, that sounds cheap, ok its not an everyday car and you need extra storage/space, but its cheap.

Still waiting for a Rocket clone with a central driving position. Single seat would be fine.

This is/was very close.

Afternoon all.

Thanks for the info James, it is good to get a definitive answer to how many were built. Mine is the prototype with the wet sump, chassis No.1. Chassis No.2 is in Japan and just about to go to its new owner. Chassis No.3 was sold at a real bargain price due to the auction website not accepting bids during the final throws and the 400RR that is for sale is perfect, except for the exhaust terminal and pedal grips, but you could do that couldn't you? There is a Brooke ME190 about to go on the market too. Honda engine and very very well maintained. Check the Facebook group for details.

You need two seats though, side by side so the passenger can get the same experience. Don't take a hefty friend or you will double the kerb weight.

As to headlights.....it looks much better with them stowed.

The 245 tandem version does look a little awkward from some angles, sadly copyrighted so unable to post them. That is what Google is for though.

This is the prototype, chassis No.1.
