Just noticed on the photo from the back with the seats folded show two vertical gas struts - does this mean the tailgate on the new one is top hinged, rather than side hinged? Even better news if true!

Oooooh, much likey.

Very nicely done and the sort of car that I’d buy the day after I retire and expect it to outlast me and cover every eventuality in between.

204bhp in something that will weigh in excess of 2.2t. No thanks.

I have the current model with this engine. It's great and feels far more rapid than the power figures suggest.

Over 500 miles from the tank too so it's far more frugal than anticipated.

With an 8 speed box it will be perfect now. The current 6 speed auto is poor.

I've already enquired with my local Toyota garage about availability on the new model biglaugh

What is the price range likely to be? A hybrid would be perfect for family use, but would that drop the tow weight limit?

I like it as an alternative to the top Defender more than the Range Rover.
200hp is low though and how much is it?

Genuinely exciting motoring news for me. We have a 100 series Land Cruiser Amazon since 2019, and I'm already dreading the day when I need to replace it. Good to know that in 15 years there will be a nice replacement available on Autotradersmile

Fantastic would love one.

Comments of “it’s a Prado” and “not a proper LC” do make me smile, it will do pretty much everything a 300 series will at a much lower cost and as someone has said before it will be more than enough for the UK needs.

+1
Looks the business but you’ll need to own a business to be able to afford one!

For a genuine off-road biased SUV it is enough. If most of your mileage is motorway based or you need big numbers for validation, then there are plenty of on-road focused more powerful offerings from VAG, BMW, JLR etc.

I have the current model with the 2.8 and while it could never be described as 'quick', it is adequate to keep pace with traffic, and get places.

I don't think Toyota are trying to poach any AMG or SVR buyers here, it's a different vehicle for those with different requirements.

The Land Cruiser has always been ugly as anything inside and out but this looks great. Would far rather this than an Ineos Grenadier
Not quite sure how you figured that one out...

Really? That's hard to explain. Especially with the interesting drivetrain in the new Lexus RX500H.

Ineos should be worried though.
A variant of the iforce max system found in the Tundra/Tacoma iirc.

I think this looks brilliant, I was really looking forward to seeing the detail as looking for a new utilitarian vehicle.

I have a current Hilux Invincible X with the same 2.8 204bhp and would suggest that you are absolutely correct, for off road it would be just fine but for on road and particularly distances I am struggling to comprehend how that would stack up.

Maybe a test drive at some point in the future would suggest otherwise.

Old school? Old school run, maybe. Only farmers should be able to buy these things.

I agree. Cynical from Toyota to call it a LC.

That said I think it looks great and will be cheaper to run and still do what 99.999% of brits in particular will require of it.
For the life of me I cannot understand this way of thinking. The 70 series is a Landcruiser and all Land Cruiser badge snobs will agree on that despite the fact that the 200/300 series also exists. But the 70 series was directly replaced by the 90 series in most markets, then the 120 and then the 150 and now this. So if a 70 series is a bonafide Landcruiser, why isnt this?

Doesn't the LC have the same definitive article status a the Range Rover or the Royal Navy ie.
nobody thinks you're talking about an Evoque or the Dutch?

A HJ47 was the 1st car I ever drove, have very fond memories of the basic but reliable LC, like the "new old" model that's coming as it doesn't have the pretentions attached like other 4x4's LR, RR, RRS etc it just gets on with the job without a fuss.

Cool, unlike the Anus Grenade.
And, obvs, it’ll be dependable, unlike anything from Solihull.
But why won’t Toyota give us the petrol 2.4-litre turbo hybrid, which they’re getting in the US?

This isn’t the proper new Land Cruiser. The LC300 series was introduce two years ago. This is a simply updated version of the current Prado (a face lift inside out with the same chassis and drive train). I know the real Land Cruisers aren’t sold in Western Europe. But Prado should be at least mentioned once in the article in order to let to let the readers know this isn’t the all new Land Cruiser. The difference between Prado and Land Cruiser is much bigger than the difference between RRS and FFRR, they have totally different chassis and drivetrains, whereas RRS at least shares the same chassis and drivetrain as FFRR…

According to drive.com.au the new Prado uses the same chassis as the 300 series.

It is also only 55mm shorter and the same width as the 300.
