Saw one on the road week before last. Looked good, although it does definitely look old school - had to double take at the 73 plate!

Sounds Familiar.
Sharp boxy tall 4WD with a commanding driving position
Physical buttons and switches
Ladder Chassis
2.7/3.0 diesel 200 bhp
Manual or Auto, Lo/Hi Range
30mpg
3,500kg towing
5 or 7 seats
Cloth or leather seats
2.5 tonne Kerbweight

Sounds like a Land Rover Discovery3!
Does it have air suspension too?
Probably a bit more reliable I would think.

Shame it's a 4 cylinder. A straight 6 would be so much better for not much uplift in cost.

Lol, find me one without a warning light on or not broken or a chassis not made of Wendslydale cheese.

Not sure if already posted, but Top Gear reviewed and loved it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIKrrGPyiaM&pp...

I'd actually been looking again at used examples of the current Land Cruiser on the assumption that the top spec new ones would be in the region of £75k. But at the end of that vid the presenter said that the First Editions would come in at circa £65k, which is pretty much the same as a new current one will set you back. If that's true, and if the regular top spec ones (i.e. the equivalent of the current Invincible), are the same sort of price, then I'll forget all about the current ones and be getting one of these.

Seems to be getting great reviews - definitely at the top of the list for replacing my Hilux when the time comes. Good to see they chose Aberdeenshire for the launch too instead of somewhere more exotic!

A fairly in depth, if slightly irritating at times, review here from Matt Watson.

I noticed that some of the photos/clips used show that the centre diff is locked using the main low range shifter whereas others show it's controlled independently by it's own switch. Hopefully they go with the latter for production cars as unlocked low range is pretty useful for low speed, hard surface manoeuvres with a heavy trailer.

Shame the 4runner isn't available here (same platform), but the Americans do seem to be rather spoilt for choice:

It's funny, I used to work with lots of Americans and they were always saying that we got all the good stuff. I remember one guy going on about how cool my bog standard farmer spec diesel Hilux was! My old diesel 80 series was always pretty popular too.

I agree that the 4runner would be a cool option, although with fleet average co2 limits with the exception of pickups the days of affordable proper 4x4s are gone I think.

There are a few more video reviews from the Scotland press day. None really adding much to the TopGear one posted above, but given they are starting to break cover on UK soil now, one would expect some news soon.

I've only watched the Carwow review by Mat Watson, and felt a bit underwhelmed. I really wanted to be blown away by it, but I wasn't.

Anyone else feel the same?

Each to their own, but I was similarly puzzled by the comment

I suppose it’s just a Land Cruiser that looks better than it did before, there’s not much new or novel about it.

Same here - I was all ready to go for the top spec car and planned to keep it for the next 10 years but after looking at the reviews I’m changing my mind but I think it’s down to the engine choice… I honestly don’t want the diesel and if it came with the Lexus engine options then I think I would be happy to order one now .. even the mild hybrid isn’t exciting me…
