Surely nobody in their right mind actually buys an EV? I assume most on the road are fleet vehicles or leased?
A great many are, like a big percentage of petrol or diesel cars were when new.

Maybe more so for electric as the incentives are there but I think it is disingenuous to think that because you or I dont want something, that nobody else does, best part of seventy million people in the UK and they dont all like the same stuff.

For example, noticed they sell baby Octopuses pickled in jars in some supermarkets, not something I would ever pick up but there are obviously enough folk out there that do buy them to make it worth stocking them, people like different stuff, even jars full of baby Octopus which I find weird. Who has a snack of baby Octopus from a jar when watching a film ffs ?

Friend of mine Bought a Honda E with his own money, loves it.

As a city car evs make alot of sense if you can charge, I wonder looking at the list if it's actually premium prices asked that put people off. Top 10 seems to be lower value cars, Evs starting around 25k must be prohibitive to lots given the current climate.

I did, private buyer.

Over 50% of all cars sold vehicles sold have been fleet/business purchases for as long as I can recall and that's about 50 years.
Me too.
On my 2nd now.
1st I had from 2017 till last month. It was coming upto 9 years old this March.
Hopefully the new one lasts longer given the bigger battery and specification.

Oh boo hoo, but he does have a point - it's the sort of vehicle that makes sense if it's leased. Have it three years, hand it back, get another.

Also, was the first EV registered in this country a G wizz?
Hardly…Beaulieu have a Columbia EV built in 1901…Reg MPA 3

You have to wonder whether PH has a future in the lives of most people round here. It’s akin to drinking in a pub that doesn’t sell your favourite tipple. Why would you bother? If you hate EVs so much, why occupy your time and brain power incessantly arguing about them. It’s quite strange.

Well anyone that did will be crying into their soya milk when they realise how much it's actually cost them!
2p per mile, cheap maintenance and loving it.
Lol, he’s got a Golf R32 MK5, we still have a 2006 DSG in the family, what an absolute money pit they are. Thirsty, rusty, not very quick and expensive to run. Makes a fantastic sound mind and is fairly good looking but that’s about it for the positives as a in 2024. So it’s resigned to being a weekend car. To comment about EV running costs while running one of those is madness rofl

So, how would you feel if the only food available was pickled baby octopii?

I guess you'd just shrug your shoulders and suck it up?

Be happy for those who like baby octopii and accept that your life is slightly worse?

Nod sagely while people tell you that you're an idiot for not liking baby octopii and that they're delicious while being better for you and the environment; please won't someone think of the children?

I've run my fair share of private cars and fun private ones too. They were all money pits.

As someone with an engineering background i like the relative simplicity of and EV. I've no idea how the next few years will pan out but friends that have much older versions of the car I have and not seen mechanical or drive issues. I like also the cheap rate electric overnight applies to the whole house and if my electrical supplier decides to charge during the day at the same cheap rate I get the whole house benefit of that as well. I see that as a win win.

The decline in private sales is likely due to a combination of negative press and Liz Truss.

Current used values would appear to back that up as it's a great time to buy a year old EV. There are some stonking cars out there if you're in the market for a 12 month old car.
Yep, currently a lot of used EV bargains at most price points..

0-5K Nissan Leaf
5-10K Renault Zoe, Volkswagen small EV’s, BMW i3
10-20K most newer Stellantis EV’s, Tesla Model 3
20-30K - Audi E-Tron, Mercedes EQC, Jag iPace, Polestar 2
30-40K BMW i4, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq models, Tesla Model X
40K-50K - Porsche Taycan, BMW iX
50K+ - Audi e-tron GT, Mercedes-Benz EQS

Yeah, likewise, private cash purchase. It's the family car, I'll likely have it 6+ years.
We run two, and just replaced one of them with a nearly new one. All bought, albeit as sole trader. Love them. But love ICE too. Indeed just enjoy driving / riding from motorbikes to tractors.

But that's not the case, you can still buy other foods if you want, but don't knock people that are happy to buy baby octopii.

People like to argue.
If it’s not EVs, then it’s about land rovers, if it’s not them then it’s about dacias in white with steel wheels.

I don’t have one, I’ve been in a Tesla which was fast, I liked that one but he charges it for free at his work.

I’d be interested more in how many of those are pre-registered EVs by the dealers, Auto Trader is flooded with them.

Well you could equally argue that why do people come to a site called PISTONheads when EV's dont have them

A little surprised that it's only a million. Might explain why the 2nd hand market is so poor.

Some decent new ones out there if you're in the top few % though.
