As charging opportunities and range improves, it will be less of a problem for all those folk in flats and other types of housing where they dont have their own driveway, I dont have an unleaded pump at home and I manage.
Those folk in flats will still be stuck paying a price per kWh many times greater than home charging. You don't need an unleaded pump at the house because you can fully charge your ICE car in 10 minutes at locations close to just about the entire population. If the cost per mile is similar and charging takes longer than filling a petrol tank and the range is less why would anyone buy an EV?
They are a good deal for anyone who gets them as a company car with tax advantages and can home charge for cheap running costs. It isn't so clear cut for buying the car out of after tax income and charging at 54-84p per kWh

The people aiming to sell electricity to car owners ... funnily enough, they're not going to price themselves out of the market. They'll need to compete with each other and with petrol prices. They may be able to gouge customers right now when customers have limited choice, but that isn't going to be sustainable as more firms enter the market to flog electricity to car owners.

Surely nobody in their right mind actually buys an EV? I assume most on the road are fleet vehicles or leased?
I bought 3. Why would I want to rent my car?I can never understand this statement. Whether you buy or lease, you still end up paying the depreciation, it’s just hidden in the monthly payment. You additionally pay the interest on the whole amount.
I sure there are often cashflow or tax reasons for leasing, but avoiding depreciation is not one.

In fifteen years time we will all be asking how the powers that be could have been so deluded into thinking EV's were ever going to be sustainable.
Agreed and it'll be impossible to get anyone to admit arguing they were "the future".You are likely be very disappointed as the move to EV is not going to stop.
I wouldn't hang your hat on the next UK government changing course.
For those that thought the 2030 -2035 date was light at the end of the tunnel they should remember it was Boris Johnson who tried to prove that the UK could go faster than the already agreed across Eu timescale. Sovereignty and all that. The reinstatement to 2035 just realigns the UK with what was always planned.

I assume from your whistle that you're suggesting the whole stupid EV transition is over. In reality, it is just simple market forces coming into play - EVs were expensive during the early adoption phase, we're moving into the mass adoption phase now and Tesla have a lot to lose coming from a large market share - if they don't want to be the next Nokia, they need to be agile to keep ahead of competition, that's all.

Given the above you'd have to be mad to buy one with your own money though. It's immediately worth less though as Tesla are constantly reducing new prices. Also old tech etc EVs seem like mobile phones, out of date real quick.

Same with ICE though, it gets outdated as tech, power and efficiency increase. The model 3 has been around for 7 years and doesn’t exactly feel old to me at least.TX.

I’m no EV fanboy. I’ll take my ICE all day everyday over an EV, but swapping out my wife’s X1 for a Model 3 has been an eye opener, as an A to B utility vehicle I’m more or less a convert.
PS it seems the large majority of sales are leased/financed so it’s never your money to start with.
