£1300 a year would annoy me for parking, but if needs must…

How about a smaller exec saloon… 3 series, Jag XE, A4, Lexus IS are equally refined as a larger one in my experience

Having been in various 1 series from 116d to M140i, I don't see how people can say the NVH or interior quality is similar to a 5 series/E class/Lexus GS.

There's a reason why these manufacturers produce executive saloons...

The only small/medium car that fits the criteria would be the Lexus IS250 so I guess I could look into it.

I haven't tried the latest 1 series, but the NVH and ride of previous versions was worse than a VW Golf, very unimpressed with the boggo versions of those.

I only suggested a 1 Series because of the size limitations. The only Toyota I can think of that might fit would be an Auris. frown

My E90 BMW 330i is shorter than an IS250, more powerful and £300 a year cheaper for Road Tax!

I wouldn't be happy leaving my car in an underground car park 24/7.

Buy something that fits the drive is the answer. Plenty of great Focus sized (and less) cars.
Such as?
Lexus ct200h?

One other option if you opt for the smaller car is to invest money on reducing NVH, eg with sound deadening.

Never try an E or F segment car with a proper number of cylinders and you can happily continue in that belief.
