I know you guys are probably busy, but this thread is becoming a joke. I don’t mind the usual keyboard warriors waging war against SUVs or LR products, but now we are descending into a conspiracy theory that sees a defender responsible for a road traffic accident (absolving the driver obviously).
I mean, just ban these tossers!

Whilst not wanting to remove “free speech” some of these loons have zero interest in general motoring discussion. They cause every thread to descend into a nonsense. I would never dream of going onto a forum or thread for something I have no interest in and being deliberately obtuse.

It’s rapidly making me consider ending my participation round these parts. It’s the only social media I participate in. Never had Fbook or any of the other cesspools and don’t want them. This place is ruined by these people………I’m alright now nurse has just come to tuck me in.

^^^ THIS.

I am sure that many of the post above are from the anti car / (looney) green lobby. Just remember that the looney left don't want to hear your views, what they want to hear are their views from your mouth.

I'm probably what you'd define as 'looney left', I'll let you look at my posts and decide...

Seem pretty normal sized to me. Smaller than my ex Transporter daily, which never had a problem going anywhere other than carparks with less than 1.9m of height.

If they're laughable you must have to laugh a lot.
This^^^ @Water Fairy I see your garage says you have/had a Transporter T5 which I believe is the same size or bigger than the 110. Was your Transporter also “laughably huge. To the point of looking a bit ridiculous. In its natural environment too” or was it ok because it was your choice?
Well firstly the T5 was a camper not a car. So actually it was quite small. For a camper. And even if it wasn't a camper but still a van, it would be a van not a car therefore, in the whole scheme of things quite small still. For a van.

The 110 I was referring to well maybe I got the model wrong? I mean for a car, it was huge. For a car, laughably huge yes. And heavier than my camper too. By a long mark as well.

Please don't confuse me saying it looked huge with me thinking they are crap. They're not my cuppa but I understand why others like them. I don't need a car that is THAT big. Simples.

If you think they are 'normal' sized, for car, then that says everything really. And yes, I find laughing very good for the health!

I took delivery of a defender 90 hardtop this morning. I also have a Renault trafic. I haven’t driven it more than 20 miles yet but compared to the trafic it does feel big to drive. Mainly due to the length and height of the bonnet. I sat behind a corsa at some lights and could hardly see the top 25%. Google suggest the width and height of the 2 are very similar but the 90 is quite a lot shorter than my panel van.

Please don’t make it political. This is simply a matter of idiots, and idiocy is bipartisan.

However it is a multi purpose vehicle. I took a huge chesterfield sofa to the tip in mine this morning. I have two dogs and two kids one of whom is disabled so the adjustable height and side steps are quite useful. In fairness we are doing about 8000 miles a year as a family in the Defender and I do about 24k p.a. In my MG 4 Trophy EV. I also have a classic 1960s car too. I think the design of the Defender with a blunt front and high bonnet can make it seem quite imposing. The argument that it is big for a car is simply a deflection from the fact you also made a choice to drive a van conversion when a Fiat 500 and a tent would have done. I also like transporters too.

The FIAT would have been interesting with 6 of us, a dog and all the camping gear to go, so there's some assumption you made there to fit your narrative. Anyway, tough having a disabled child, whatever makes things easier and helps is a bonus. I guess some of the choice we have now really helps. Good luck.

I can understand the point you are making, however, it does seem to be a political issue, since it does seem to be the left (Labour, Greens, etc.) who are anti car, you only need to look what has happened in London (expansion of the ULEZ which most people didn't want) and Wales (extensive and unreasonable 20MPH speed limits, again which most people didn't want), etc. Just my opinion, I am sure that others have theirs. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on such matters.

What I don't understand is, if people are such anti car, why register on a car forum for something they either have very little interest in or actually despise, other than they are being a troll on such car forums.

Anyone know if it's possible to get 48hr test drive in one? Wife is very keen on these things. I could ring my dealer but I'm being idle and fancy inadvertently starting an internet bag off.

I have had mine for two-and-a-half years now. It does everything well and I would recommend them as a great car to anyone (except those that hate big cars or want to travel quickly - you can’t beat physics and it is heavy). It comfortable, carries everything, can go anywhere I need it to and the tech is great.

Ours recently developed some condensation in one headlight which will get sorted under warranty but has otherwise been entirely faultless.

Shush with your facts. This is supposed to be a st-show thread where some folk think everything can be easily solved by putting everyone into simple boxes based on pre-conceived ideas based on a single metric, usually ill-informed.

Somewhat off-topic but I wonder why the Zoe has such bad pedestrian safety? Didn't expect that.

I can't even understand how/why people look at data about pedestrian accidents? Surely the idea is just not to drive into people? those people are more likely to see a large car than something smaller also. What a strange world we live in.

Actually, the first one to push for ULEZ was boris Johnson when he was mayor of London. And in a city like London I can see why they would try everything to clean the air.

Regarding the trolls, they do it because they are sad tossers. The moment you stop paying attention to them they go, because attention and interaction is what they crave. It’s not even worth insulting them, that counts as attention in their mind

Neighbour has owned a 22 plate for 6 months, it has been at the dealership for 4 out of these 6 months. He handed over £75k for this low mileage example and to say he is slightly annoyed would be as massive an understatement as saying these vehicles are reliable!

Whilst I understand your neighbours situation is I imagine more than annoying it’s a straw poll of one. There is on PH an overwhelming majority of owners whose collective and individual experiences have been positive. I quote “would be as massive an understatement as saying these vehicles are reliable!” I would say it’s quite the contrary but don’t let that stop you spouting complete bks on the internet.
