We’ve had ours for 10 months now, 18,000 miles covered, around 600 I’d say towing a twin axle Trailer carrying either an MX5 or building waste, and it’s been absolutely faultless. It’s quiet, comfortable, superbly built and thought out (in my opinion) and makes me happy regardless of the day I’ve had whenever I get in it.

Living in Rural Herefordshire/Monmouthshire having it over the last week or so has been a godsend. I’m a serial Land Rover owner and as excellently put in the buying guide, was happy to accept any foibles (I don’t think there are any personally) it may have had. It’s blown me away, and continues to impress me nearly every day. Superb.

Careful mate, I'm not sure anyone what's to know about how much we like our cars, (no matter how much they make sense in certain situations). Looks like it' more a discussion about hating SUVs or cyclists or something.

(Great colour by the way, wish they had offered green on the V8).

🤣 Very true. Fortunately or unfortunately, whatever your perspective, the Defender has become a symbol of wealth and success. There’s nothing the bitter, morally embattled inner-city liberal loves more than a good old fashioned class war, which is I think where most of the hatred comes from.

Thank you, we were actually contemplating a change in colour for the next one but I’m still on the fence about it. How do you find the V8 out of interest?

I have grown to really like it. But, it probably needs about another 100/150hp to really make it truly feel like a proper monster, (I think the upcoming SVX will fix this). I also love how Q car it is, you really wouldn't know it's a V8 unless you noted the quad exhausts. Something you wouldn't get with a Range Rover.

Ah yes, hatred. Such a useful emotion.

Don't ever go to Denmark. Or the Netherlands.
I went to Amsterdam back in 2003, and I enjoyed it there in fairness. I think cyclists hate me as well though, because everytime I see one they always seem to be in my way!

Hate is too strong of an emotion I agree, and I think it is more frustration for me really.
In the way? Like using the roads in a legal way? I used to get this when I lived in Oxfordshire with idiots getting angry that I had the temerity to use the road despite paying “road tax”. Boggles my mind that someone in a one tonne metal box traveling at speed can feel threatened by a person with a tiny foot print cycling in the gutter at 15 mph or so. I drive too and understand how vulnerable you can feel on a bike. Not hard to have empathy for other road users.

Hoping as spring arrives might be better deals to be had.

I also agree - I £&@king hate the use of ‘curated’
Deals to be done with the right dealer. £2k off automatically, but I’ve just got a surprisingly good discount off a fairly modest (comparatively) D250 110.

Dealers are mixed tho, some can’t barely be arsed to make a sale, others are very hungry to do a deal.

It is always disappointing to be reminded that an individual can harbour a blanket hatred of a group of vulnerable road users.

To then learn this manifests as ‘frustration’ while on the road, combined with a penchant for fragile ego transport makes me feel quite sick. Frustration leads to poor driving behaviour.

I hope that the recent updates and clarifications in the Highway Code help all kinds of enthusiast use the road without a minority of frustrated (mostly) men wrecking it for everyone else.

Love these. My heart keeps considering a 110 as a possible family car, but my brain reminds me that the spare wheel on the outside and the tailgate split vertically in two are far from practical…

To the SUV haters: sorry guys, they are so much more practical than the equivalent estates. The only thing that beats them in practicality is a people carrier like a seat Alhambra or the old Renault espace, but when the looks come into the equation people will choose the SUV. They are here to stay, and I’ve said that already, probably 20 years ago. Deal with it.

I wouldn’t let either of those things put you off. I can’t think of a single scenario I’ve been in where it’s been an issue. Whether it be parking in a multi story, day to day admin, dog related activities, I’ve not once found it to be a hindrance. Practical is objective, applying a couple of ounces of common sense to an approach to a situation where you MAY find it problematic has, in every scenario, been all I’ve needed to never have a problem.

Defender owner here (among other things). And a cyclist. No supposed reading this thread that the UK is the most unpleasant place to ride a bike, pretty much entirely down to the entitlement of drivers that consider the roads ‘theirs’.

Are you on the right forum? Maybe BRAKE (or any other anti motoring group) or whatever they are called are more of your liking.

With our Touareg lease deal ending in July these are a serious contender. Has anyone acquired a commercial one through their business and converted to a family car?

Definitely grown on me. Neighbour has a three door and it’s a good looking thing but it does seem very big for what is a three door.

Saw a Grenadier the other day and compared to the Defender it looked like a dinosaur. People that have them do seem to love them so it looks like LR have got it right.

I like your posts Lee as although we are unlikely to ever agree, (but never say never) you say what you feel. Heart on the sleeve kinda approach and you rarely if ever get personal here.

You could chill a bit though. It's only a car at the end of the day.

Yes bud, and I enjoy the chats that I have with you on here too. beer

I'm personally a big fan of this Defender though, and it is just cyclists(and EVs) that seem to send me into a spin that's all! smile

Thanks for the advice. In a couple of years, when I may change my current family mobile, I may go for a test drive
