RE: 2024 Volkswagen ID 7 vs. Hyundai Ioniq 6
Discussion
As an Arteon owner, I should be in the ID.7's buyer demographic, as both models are shooting for the 5 door fastback look, but the design of the ID.7 is soooo bland, both outside and in, whereas I continue to relish the design touches of the Arteon, even a number of years into my ownership.
I'm aware that the Arteon's dash is shared with the Passat but, even so, I find the design more attractive and cohesive than the ID.7 (I particularly like the analogue clock, but maybe I'm showing my age there! )
VW seem to've hit upon a particularly bland family face for the ID range and then applied that slavishly to all models (even the ID.Buzz), without apparently noticing how unappealing this makes them all.

That's a shame paul13 and 911Spanker, but obviously you have to right to leave this board. Miata.net has a wealth of information on MX5's, one of my favs. Also, a lot of forums have moved to the magnificent Facebook so maybe Facebook might be for you.
Whilst Spanker has been known to troll EV threads, Facebook is too severe a punishment I'd say.1974foggy said:

That VW looks HUGE
Just what I was thinking. Look at the size of the driver in comparison to the car.The state of car styling in general, wow. Its like VWs heart just wasnt in it at all.
Hyundai is just odd, I bet the boot is tiny.

Who buys a new EV with private cash…. like setting fire to your hard earned.
As far as I can see, any means of obtaining any mainstream car brand new is much like setting fire to money.I'm thoroughly grateful that so many people do enjoy burning their money though. Depreciation, coupled with people willing to pay for it, is great.

I just don't understand VW's design language. They're like cheap plastic toys made with all the interest smoothed off because the manufacturer can't afford a detailed mould. Then, they try to reinsert some interest with the odd swage line and weird layered rear light clusters, but create a hodgepodge of detailed and undetailed elements. Messy and incoherent. Mercedes, on the other hand, have an equally undetailed design language at the moment, but they pull it off because they're consistent with the smooth profiles and nothing jars.
And don't get me started on VW's Fisher-Price interiors...
