Active Sound Generators in cars
Discussion
My EV makes a synthetic external noise under about 15mph to alert pedestrians.
Inside, there's virtually no noise at all. If I'm really giving it the beans then there's a slight bassy whine from the rear of the car that doesn't sound dissimilar to the sound effect used on Star Trek when a ship is about to go to warp.
I quite like it this way. The only thing that took some getting used to was the lack of an audible cue as to how quickly I was going.

EV's should have these and make the sound of a stone stuck in the tyre until the tyre roar is loud enough for a pedestrian to know one is near.
If a pedestrian is too stupid to notice something the size of say, a car, in an environment where they would expect one to be, say, a road, car park, whatever, I'd call that Darwinian selection. My old Lexus LS400 was nigh on silent and I didn't manage to hit anyone, despite actively trying at times...buggers ALWAYS saw me coming... biggbn said:

You see how close one can up behind someone before it is heard. It is a lot closer than you might image giving a pedestrian even less time to react.
