Have to disagree with you, in central Europe we cover big kilometres just travelling to and from our summer house/cottages. Annual kilometres of family cars can be typically 30-40k km. The Skoda Superb diesel is everywhere and so are X5, Q7 and 5 series...all diesel because they nail the motoring profile perfectly.

You are correct in that 'volvo cars' are 100% a chinese owned company and will have decisions made that suit those chinese owners and the Chinese Communist Party ultimately. In terms of buying a new one a brand now best avoided. There will be some cover if bought on a relatively short term finance deal with a guaranteed buy back, but in the longer run a buyers will be on their own. Better, if you have no qualms about a chinese made car, get one branded as a VW or whatever as such European owned businesses will have to 'own' what they have sold you.... the chinese have no such concerns....

Agreed. I used to love Volvos years back for sure, however I don't think that anyone would actually miss them if they weren't here anymore now though.

Have to disagree with this. I bought my S90 in 2018. It was a jewel, a striking looking car inside and out, with super premium materials and the best seats ever. They are still building cars like that, just with a different (better) drivetrain. As for made in China, mine was made in China. The build quality was exceptional.

Absolute nonsense. Our plug in hybrid XC60 is a much better car than the diesel XC40 it replaced. Same fantastic safety. Understated style without the bling of Mercedes or the coal scuttle interior of an Audi. Massively impressive performance. Same economy on a long run, electric on a short run. Massively more refined than the nasty agricultural 4 pot diesel engine. What’s not to like?

I'd say convenience of home charging (for those lucky enough to have it), and the relative refinement/ease of use are probably higher on the list of things most people appreciate about EVs myself...rather than them just being cheap.

There is that to be fair. Although I'm definitely sticking with the fact that they're cheap to have/run. If they didn't have the tax benefits and all that comes with that, plus if they cost the same to run as a diesel or petrol, then nobody would buy them/go near them I reckon.

Personally, if it’s a daily driver, I’d never go back to ICE. In fact I’d be happy to pay more to run an EV.

I think that you'd be in the minority with that to be honest, and a chap I know who has a Tesla Model 3 says that the "only" reason he has it...is because it is cheap. It is a no brainer for him if you understand what I mean.

In saying that, we all like different things though. I have a strong passion for an internal combustion engine, whereas I'd imagine that some folk have that same passion as me, but that passion is for batteries/electric motors instead. Even if that is personally difficult for me to believe if I'm completely honest.

Well it takes a special kind of person to drive a car they don’t like, just because it saves them money. I suspect they’re just not into cars at all, because even the most diehard petrolhead would appreciate the benefits of an EV drivetrain in normal day-to-day driving.

My 3 year old Milk float is doing fine in the UK. It gives me a smile when some ICE drivers are surprised at the rate of acceleration.

As for the Taycan in my other place the residuals are doing fine.
