I was just looking at the combined mpg figure on that, and it is only 25 mpg! So with these you will get through a fair bit of fuel whether you go diesel or petrol I reckon.

The 400d engine is really nice for a diesel though I think.
That vertical windscreen and blunt nose must hammer the mpg at higher motorway cruise speeds whereas more slippery cars can get good mpg at a 70mph cruise.

Spent some time in a 2023 G63 and it was the very worst modern car I’ve driven.
Terrible steering off something like a steam ship, a brake pedal which didn’t do anything, and at all times felt like it would fall over at the first corner. Horrible.
They may have been fashionable once, but as soon as the Footballers/Cobham wives got them, they’re about as cool as a BALMAIN tattoo on your forehead.
God-awful.

The figures on the G350 surprised me.

Have they neutered it quite a bit? 180hp sounds a bit anemic.
Its 183kW, which is equal to approx 249bhp.

I really like these, and if I could afford to buy and run one, I definitely would.
So would I after reading this article.
My daughter has loved them for years, I just laughed at her.
Shows you how much I know….

For a while I did not like the G63 or really understand them. Perhaps seeing more and more in recent times has softened my viewpoint. These days I think they are brilliant - but not the mega blinged up versions. I love the ground shaking rumble and the physics defying performance attained by shifting all that weight and slab sided form as rapidly as they do.

As mentioned earlier they are abundant in Puerto Banus and Marbella. To be fair, I think the nearest one is a much rarer 500 model.

The G-Wagen's service with BRIXMIS is something that gives it quite a lot of authenticity in my eyes.

Fashionable once? There are thousands upon thousands of them out there. You may not like them, but that doesn't mean they're not fashionable.

What was the USP of the G 500? I presume they are less powerful than the G63?
Full marks to the near one for having sensible sized wheels and tyre profile. Looks like it could even venture off road!

i feel this is utter nonsense sorry. An older one perhaps, but the newer 2018+ cars drive really good. They aren't exactly a drivers car but saying you felt like it would tip over in the first corner is a bit of an exaggeration. I test drove one last summer and it reminded me of a Range Rover Sport in all honest, i was impressed.

Doesn't seem to want to tip over here at the hands of Chris Harris in Llandow, one of the tightest and smallest circuits going.

If they could only depreciate a little bit more then I think will spring for a G400d, with decent sidewalls on the tyres. Then try to find out how to replace the tints with clear glass. I can't help think there must be demand for slightly less blingy versions, they are fantastic machines which put some buyers off simply with the image. I drive a knackered 1988 version as my daily farm car - its so much nicer on-road than a £15 grand Defender and equally capable off it.

Its another one of those cars thats really quite impressive but the image makes you never want to own one.

Had a go in a friend's previous generation G63. It was a cool thing but I couldnt help white knuckles every time i saw a corner coming. Stable at speed it was not.

Sure, but don't forget your friend's version had recirculating-ball steering, narrower track width and solid axles front and rear.

The version in this BG has rack and pinion, wider track and a double-wishbone front end. (And the 2024 update will have all-round active suspension as standard.) smile

It's simply not an off-roader with those wheels and tyres ...
Can’t remember its name but there’s a U-choob channel focusing on SUV mega group off-road tests, and even on 22s shod with road-biased tyres the G63 always thunders forth: low-range + all 3 diffs locked = we shall pass, always.

Love ‘em myself, whatever one’s taste - old money recluse; navel-gazing minimalist; chavtastic expressionist, etc – there’s a spec / colour combo to suit all party

I remember hiring one in the UAE and it was certainly an experience at 140kph.

That said, I thought it was brilliant. Deeply flawed, but overflowing with character. Would love to try one of the newer ones.

Erk alors! Brabus does an engine upgrade to 4.5-litres and 900hp:

Or there’s an ECU tweak for a mere 700hp:

It is a bit like the comparison between a working dog out in the fields, vs the a blingy G63 which is more like a ponced up Crufts version.

G wagens to me are cooler when they arent a Matte black G63 with tinted windows.
