I agree but In fairness that's been the S3s gig though since day 1, the more understated cousin to the golf R, and a no thank you to the winged up offerings from Honda and AMG etc. Its always been hard to tell them apart from the S-line but I guess that's the attraction for some

If a Civic type R is £50k then an S3 being a few k few more mirrors history and not surprising at all. I am no longer outraged by these price, just don't care anymore. £10k down and £600 a month for something a little nippy I cant stomach so new cars are are largely irrelevant - long live the classifieds!
I concur. The only problem with that is if that's a 4 year PCP deal, it'll be the thick end of £38k! You may as well go the whole hog and take a bank loan out, at least you own a four year old car at the end of the term!!

But unfortunately quite accurate

I can't believe I'm saying it, but £47k doesn't seem so crazy to me, because we paid £41k brand new for an Audi TTS Black Edition back in 2012 in comparison. So I was expecting it to be a bit more expensive in fairness.

In saying that, generally new car prices have shot up a lot though over the last few years for sure.

Accurate indeed.

What a terrible and uninspired way to spend £50k. I think I'm getting old, but that's an awful looking thing, at an overly inflated price, that will only be driven by certain types wanting to show that they're making bare funds bruv.

As prices continue to rise, it just makes me go the opposite way... shed ownership becoming much more attractive! Plus a few tickets at DCG just in case driving

Even if I won the lottery, I don't think I could stomach paying £40k+ for a hatchback, no matter how good it was.

Lucky we don't live in France. A new FL5 type r is £86K and a Yaris GR £89k or thereabouts due to c02 surcharge so its not just us
That must be the Brexit hitting the French!

Idiots that spout brexit as cause for global inflation really are short of a few brain cells.

100%

Lots of much nicer luxury and sports cars had for sub £30k leaving a generous slush fund for maintenance over course of ownership.

There are just so, so many other ways I would rather spend that kind of money. I know you aren't meant to compare new with used, but you could get to the very best examples of some vastly more inspiring cars than this lump for half the price.

Starting @ £47.5k!

A late 2023 sub 2000 mile
£45k Civic Type R would get my money no question.

I like the new versus used game in fairness, because it always gets you thinking about how many other used performance cars are out there in comparison for similar money. I generally like going older/more interesting, rather than new/predictable if you know what I mean.

We all like different things though, so you just go with the one you prefer I reckon.

I think new vs used is fair as long as it's not just a way of bashing the new one.

I don't see this as overpriced in the current market for new cars. That doesn't mean any given person might think it's the best thing they could spend the money on, but that you can buy an x-year-old alternative for the same or less doesn't make any difference to whether the S3 is good or not.

Quite! Of course, it explains why they love the EU(SSR) so much in the first place.

Rear three quarters image looks almost identical to the cheaper Seat Leon?

Grey on grey never really helps these things either. I know grey is fashionable, but it would look so much better with a bit of colour either internally or externally.

I can’t think of a quicker way to get a front door smashed in than owning one of these. Oooooo er.

No doubt very rapid but will really attract the wrong sort of attention from the thieving scroats and innit bruvs of our society.

I'm probably the exact target market for the new S3 and RS3...... but I've opted for this.

A mere £17k to buy (albeit + eyewatering running costs i suspect), which seems a much better way to spend/lose the money in my opinion.

^ yes please!!

This S3 not so much. The saloon version looks awful. I don't like the look of the RS3 that came out a couple of years ago either.
